Philippine Loss From Typhoon Haiyan Colossal

By       (Page 1 of 1 pages)   2 comments
On Friday November 8, Typhoon Haiyan smashed into the island of Samar on the eastern central part of the archipelago and completely destroyed many towns and villages on the seashore. Over 10,000 people are believed to have lost their lives from the typhoon. Many were evacuated to higher ground prior to Haiyan's arrival as meteorologists had been tracking it and put out warnings in advance of its arrival. The Philippines is along the Ring of Fire and is prone to earthquakes and typhoons. Many of the Philippines poorest live on the sea shore. I believe that the Philippines, with a population of 98 million, consisting of 7,107 islands of which only 2,000 are inhabited, should have a public works program to assist the newly homeless poor with housing and other sorts of assistance, including funding to rebuild homes, schools, businesses, health clinics, police and fire department buildings and so forth on higher ground. This is especially necessary since typhoons and earthquakes are frequent in this region of the world. The Philippines had not yet fully recovered from typhoons and earthquakes that had occurred prviously to this current disaster and the need is great for the people of the Philippines. Indeed, large numbers of people are in very desperate situations. So I encourage people to help them and here are a few aid organizations that are now providing relief in the Philippines. If donating, please specify that it is for Philippine typhoon relief. Thank you. UNICEF Email address removed OXFAM Email address removed Red Cross Philippine Red Cross, Donate
