President Hassan Shikh Mohamud pledged a "new Era" for Somalia

The new Somali Elected Present Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is the first democratically approved president of Somalia. The President told a moving story in both his election campaign and his inaugural ceremony.

During the election campaign, President Hassan told the Parliamentarians if elected he will bring a change to Somalia. While, delivering his speech he went through what took place Somalia in the last twenty years, and how, Somali people suffered at home and abroad. To many who listened to the President's story, it signified his respect for Somali Parliamentarian voters.

Indeed, the President had recalled the difficult times Somalis went through during those years when, many Somalis died because of their clan affiliation or perished in the oceans trying to escape the violence in the country.

He assured Somalis that given the background that led to past event, he would not let the nation down as he begins his new tenure. He said : "The day of transformation begins today. Nobody would be allowed to divide us again".

He further stated that rebuilding security sector was at the heart of his pillars and transformation agenda. He reassured the nation that he was committed to providing service for the population, education for Somali youngsters and jobs   for Somalis in the next four years.

He stated that the war against corruption and Alshabab would be sustained and urged all Somalis  to  join the war against this  two cancers.

In his inauguration ceremony "This is a new dawn. We fought for independence; we must now fight for peace and democratization" he said.

Commenting on  what would be the foreign policy thrust of his new administration, he stated that the nation would remain committed to  peace  with neighboring countries and global peace and continue its role  in the (EGAD) and  the African Union.

Some of the prominent Somali intellectuals who attended the event agreed with the President that with his assumption of office, the nation had witnessed a new dawn.. He maintained that the most important thing was that the day had come and it had been eventually been celebrated adding that he looked forward to change under the new dispensation. .

He Said: "This is the beginning of a new dawn and we are happy with it" He commended the President for his speech and described it as rich and  balanced.

A Djiboutian journalist who was a member of that country's Presidential delegation to the ceremony was also full of praises  for Somalia.  He described the swearing-in-ceremony as colorful and opined that Somali peace and security had matured adding that he had visited the country two times and seen much progress within this period.

He said: "It is good that peace has taken root in Somali Capital and other places. Somalis is now on the right path. East Africa would benefit from it because the rest of the countries look up to Somalis".

Ali Ahmed Hassan, a development practitioner  who also attended the ceremony  was also full of optimism that President Hassan Shikh Mohamud would take Somali  to great heights under his new administration.

He said he was highly impressed with the ceremony  adding that  there was hope that Somalia would take its rightful place in the comity of nations in no distant time.

 Ahmed Abdikariin  a Aid worker  but  based in Hargeisa said he  travelled to Mogadishu to witness the event as an individual. In response to a question concerning the prevailing mood in  Somaliland State capital,  he said, "the mood in Hargeisa is joyous, as you know Mr. President is Hargeisa boy"

He continued: "The ceremony is symbolic and historic because Somalis is beginning to have the peace and democracy we have been praying for, for a long time."
