Project on Government Oversight (POGO) Hits Balls Out of the Park!

By Danielle Brian  Posted by James Murtagh (about the submitter)   1 comment

Coalitions for Public Oversight have made huge progress in exposing corruption and protecting whistleblowers. Join Us!

In the first half of the year, with your help, POGO has accomplished some extraordinary results.  Here are some of the hits we've had recently:

  • We exposed Air Force generals spending millions of taxpayer dollars to fly in custom built "comfort capsules" while our troops fly in seats barely bolted to the floor!  This story was covered across the country from the Washington Post to the

Seattle Times, was the lead story on the July 22nd Colbert Report, and prompted bipartisan congressional outrage and questioning at the generals' nomination hearings for a higher post.

  • We witnessed the House vote to create a database modeled after POGO's Federal Contractor Misconduct Database, which lists the top 50 federal contractors with long criminal, civil and administrative rap sheets.  This legislation will improve contractor accountability government-wide and prevent risky contractors from receiving future government contracts.

  • We were featured in three separate New York Times editorials: In April our Federal Contractor Misconduct Database was praised; in May our work disclosing the Pentagon Inspector General's inability to properly account for expenditures was highlighted; and finally, in July, our work exposing the Air Force "comfort capsules" was cited.  In addition, our work exposing problems with Livermore National Lab near San Francisco was the engine behind a Time Magazine article in May.

With your aid, in the next six months we can continue to hit balls out of the park.

Warm regards,

Danielle Brian
Executive Director
Project On Government Oversight

P.S. We just put the finishing touches on two new YouTube videos: click here to watch Nick Schwellenbach talk about our recent investigation into the Air Force "comfort capsules," and click here to watch Jake Wiens discuss our recent report on favoritism in the Department of Justice Byrne Discretionary Grant Program.  Hope you like them!
