Sonnet: Deep Mindfulness It Ain't

by John Kendall Hawkins

.

"Ain't no use, nobody can stop them now""

- Bob Marley, "Real Situation," Uprising

.

If things had gone strictly according to Hoyle's rules,

we'd have bombed Russia back to the Stone Age by now,

and been halfway to China's border wall, then Pow!

with our hostile takeover complete. Next up, schools

of thought, any thoughts. Golly wags, and smithertools,

and pusillanimous, preening Medici fans

excite opera gits with their South Beach dayglo tans

in a CRISPR conspiracy to 'volve out fools.

I don't know that I can take much more of this sh*t.

I've got an interview with a panpsychist soon

and, man, his words had better help me shoot the moon

because what I'm seeing now -- I ain't gettin it.

If this is the way we want to enter the Big Merge,

then I got bad news: we'll be the first things they purge.
