Today is Earth Day. Ray! The day we set aside
to remember we live on a planet -- not just
in our vast heads, not as concepts, or tweetle-dums,
or part-time Greens, or t-shirt philosopher bums,
or holders of happy gas balloons that go bust,
or people who want to merge the day with Gay Pride.
No, the place is falling apart, and now there's war.
What will become of our water? I wonder.
Each of us is an aquarium on two legs,
but the world is built on nuclear powder kegs
just waiting for the lizard people to blunder,
and we will go, How come? What happened? and What for?
I miss Earth more and more. We should have more such days.
The world has gone really really bad. I blame the gays.
