Out here in hippy dippy land, my first impulse was to welcome Arlen to the LIGHT.

I want to believe it is possible for a human being to take a look at what they are participating in what they are actually doing,  and make the choice to Do The Right Thing.

Is he ill? Has he gotten a terminal illness? He seems very interested in the NIH, and medical research.  Things that make ya go Hmmmm.

Is he worried about his 29 year long legacy, that history will consider him an enabler? Has he decided to become a Statesman rather than slimey politician? Sure hope so.

Have the Republican’s threatened his Senate seat?  Sure looks like it. I’m watching him now on the CNN. And heaven help me, he looks sincere. He actually used the word PRINCIPLIES.

And hoo boy is he Pissed Off at the Club For Growth.  Some really good quotes coming outta his mouf. You’ll see them later I’m sure. Facts, he actually used FACTS!

If others believe that this whole thing is some cynical political move, well, let them. If that is indeed the case, well… no surprise there.

But for now, I’m going with my gut. The man is appalled at what the Republican party has become. His life long party left him behind for ideology, for power grasping, for rovian dirt, lies, manipulation, war, death, and torture.

When his campaign as a Democrat gets geared up, I’m going to send him $25.00. Exactly the price of one vial of my insulin. Same amount I sent Gore, Kerry, and Obama.

Welcome Senator Arlen Specter, to the light. Can you bring a few more with you?
