But his point obviously went over the heads of the audience and the MSM.
First, allow me to point out that Mr. Eastwood isn't the doddering old republican who takes liberty with the facts or is just the confused angry old fart everyone assumes he is. He is sharp as a tack and proved it the night of his speech. No one, not even Romney, could have said what he said at a republican convention without getting booed off the stage. Although his presentation wasn't the best he pulled it off like the pro he his and one has to look beyond his words and alleged "mistakes".
Second, Let's look at a similar situation; let's say the Democratic Party wanted to "use" the celebrity status of say an 82 yr old version of George Clooney and let's say GC was an veterans' advocate and single payer healthcare advocate, yet after years of lobbying congress, and helping democratic causes for the party all he ever truly received was a deaf ear and a patronizing smile.
Now the Party wants GC to speak at the 2012 Democratic Nat. Convention. Let's also assume that GC saw (as CE did) that a golden opportunity had been given to him by those who had used, ignored and patronized him all these years, an opportunity to give a national voice on national media to issues that are morally and ethically righteous but discarded by Congress as anti-business and politically incorrect by the party. The task is "how to pull it off without being censored, booed from the stage or have the sound turned off". Bingo, framing and presentation, outside the normal script (just as CE did)!
The night of his speech, GC walks out with a stool and introduces an imaginary Romney, (presentation, outside the normal script, done).
The framing and acceptance is easy
now, do just as CE did, put the blame for the words coming out of GC's mouth on
the imaginary Romney and the crowd will eat it up.
For
example; Afghanistan, Quote Mr R on how he said he would ramp up the
war, then remind him that none told Pres Bush how the Afghans bankrupt a world power after ten years of war and how Pres Obama will bring all of the troops home before the election. continue with the full funding of the VA and with the inadequacy of "Obama care", of how millions will still be left uninsured,
of how Mr R says it will hurt business. Then relate how the Pres knows
that single payer is a win-win for the people and business, for the
public and the private sectors and how the pres will push for medicare for all.
continue
on and on with each issue such as accountability, assassinating us
citizens, drones on us soil, the TPP, citizens united, gitmo, etc. etc.
the crowd will eat it up and if enough issues are brought up even the press will get the point.
