This is the last new Moon before December 21, 2012. While I know that the end of the world is not going to happen, I also know that we all need a marker that we can look back on and say, "My new life began on that day." We can use this marker of 12.21.12 not only for our personal life but also for our collective life. As a world-wide culture, we can consciously decide to leave an old paradigm behind and create a new story about our future. That's the blessing of having a marker--it reminds us of our beginnings. It reminds us to stay conscious. It blesses us with a shared experience. When was the last time you had that?
So what do we do with the last new Moon before such a birth? What seed do we want to plant? Perhaps if we explore the nature of Sagittarius, we'll find our seed.
Sagittarius is a mutable sign, meaning it can take many forms. The horse-person defines the personality which can ride its instinctive nature consciously and move quickly into the future. But like the arrow which is the symbol of Sagittarius, this energy wants to know which direction to head in.
Sagittarius wants to head off on an adventure, either a physical adventure or a philosophical one. Expansion is the word, and with Sagittarius' ruler, Jupiter, traveling backwards in Gemini, we want to expand our categories and deepen our perceptions. Sagittarius' spiritual essence wants to explore the unknown elements of Divinity. We can either explore an established theology or turn our attention to Mother Earth's natural laws. Sagittarius' curiosity will explore what those laws are, so we can understand something more about our human nature.
Sagittarius energizes our
spiritual search. After our death &
rebirth experience in Scorpio, we want a new understanding of our place in the
Cosmos. Our old worldview was distorted
by our emotional wounds; a new worldview comes into being if we let those
emotional wounds heal. Coming after Scorpio's emotional purge, Sagittarius'
fire energizes our search for a larger vision, giving us the curiosity to seek
out what might be out there now that our old life is gone. We get to look beyond our old beliefs and
discover something new about ourselves and the universe. Once we gain this larger perspective, we are called
back to our center, to our original
purpose for incarnating this lifetime.
Whenever I think of Sagittarius, I invariably think about the time of year and what the natural world is up to. There's something mysterious and beautiful about the evening sky during late November and early December in the northern hemisphere. The sky is a deep sapphire blue, warm and protective despite the cold. I am always reminded that the night sky sends us wisdom if we look for it, just as the 3 Wise Men once followed a star. During Sagittarius, the night sky is full of stories belonging to the Summer Stars. When we look at the December sky, we are assured by what we see there; the sky stories tell us there are things in life worth living for. The sky gives us faith and hope during the darkest time of year.
So perhaps the seed we want to plant at this new Moon is a new story of possibilities. We all need a story to inhabit. Our deepest source of life energy comes from our imaginations; it is the imagination that tells us the story of what is possible for us. Story energizes our beliefs, which in turn gives us the passion and will to create our life. In the past our stories were shaped by patriarchy, but those old stories have become too small for us to live within.
We need a new cosmic story, a story that gives us a positive belief about what the future holds. If we choose to live in a story of fear, it will hold fear. If we choose to live in a story of creativity, it will be a creative story. If we live in a story of hope, there will be hope. So it's important to choose what to believe in.
Our beliefs shape our lives. Sagittarius helps us choose our beliefs. Sagittarius is a truth-seeker and a truth-speaker. It is our Sag energy that pushes us to personally connect to Great Spirit, connecting to the Source of creation itself .
Sagittarius New Moon
The Sagittarius new Moon occurs on Thursday,
December 13, 2012 at 12:42am PST/ 3:42am EST/ 8:42am GMT.
The Sabian Symbol for the Sun and Moon at 22*Sagittarius is: Jehovah, looking down on the Earth from his heavenly throne. (from Steven D. Eardley, Revised Sabian Symbols.)
This symbol speaks about divine justice. Is Divinity really watching over us, judging our life? Since we are sparks of divine consciousness, than I believe the answer is yes! There is a spiritual purpose to our lives. We know that life itself is a test, an initiation into a higher state of consciousness. When we reach that new level, we can rest in the knowledge that we have earned it. This new Moon asks us to plant the seed of a new story about a new life, one in which we consciously co-create with Divinity a new life here on Earth.
