If you live in Michigan - and you've fallen on hard times - you're screwed.
Michigan Republican Governor Rick Snyder is donning his reverse Robin Hood hat - stealing from the poor to give to the rich. The Governor is expected to sign legislation that cuts the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program in Michigan from 60 weeks to 48 weeks. As a result - on October 1st - more than 11,000 desperately poor people in Michigan will lose a critical lifeline.
However, at the same time - Rick Snyder wants to toss his CEO corporate donors a nice fat tax break - signing into law an 86% tax cut on corporations that will cost Michigan $1.7 billion - far more than the $60 million the state is saving by cutting welfare to the poor. In other words - for every dollar Governor Snyder is taking from the poor - he's giving 30 dollars to transnational corporations.
So how is taking money out of the hands of people who would spend it - a good way to create jobs?
Rick Snyder isn't the only Governor who's screwed working families to give huge tax breaks to transnational corporations. So too has Governor Scott Walker in Wisconsin - Chris Christie in New Jersey - John Kasich in Ohio - Rick Scott in Florida - and the list goes on and on and on.
The Sheriff of Nottingham would be oh so proud of today's Republican Party. For more on this...Thom is joined by David Selig - Conservative Commentator and advocate for Republican Governors who screw over their constituents.
There are more than a dozen major countries with higher corporate tax rates than the US.
