This report is based largely on a book, The War On Truth, by Dr. Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed, Executive Director of the Institute for Policy Research & Development, in London. The Institute is an independent trans-disciplinary research network promoting equality, sustainability and security. Ahmed is also a bestselling author and international security analyst specializing in the historical sociology and political ecology of mass violence. He has taught at the Department of International Relations, University of Sussex, and lectured at Brunel University's Politics & History Unit at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, for courses in international relations theory.
Ahmed's book tars the CIA & FBI, the US, and the UK, claiming that they all either knowingly or unwittingly supported, aided, and abetted terrorists, and that the main purpose for allowing 9-11 to happen was so that it could serve as a rationale and/or cover for:
- the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq and
- the trashing of the Bill of Rights and the clamp down on civil liberties in the USA, and
- the continuing transfer of wealth to the top 1% (principally the bankster elite), from everyone else.
On Amazon.com, a former CIA officer, Robert Steele, reviews this book pretty much as follows:
While there is certainly something to be said for Ahmed's book painting a "worst case" conspiracy theory scenario, all that the author says is completely consistent with what I learned during my years of experience as a clandestine case officer. It is also completely consistent with my extensive reading on national security misadventures. The author and I further agree that we should be careful not to over-estimate the competence of the U.S. government and the bureaucracy & ethics of the political ideologues who are employed in this bureaucracy.
Academically and objectively, this book is about as carefully laid out and sourced as one could want. The quotes that it offers from official State Department officers complaining they were ordered to give visas to clearly disqualified applicants (who turned out to be terrorists being trained and supported by CIA) stand out, as do the retrospective quotes on everything the FBI failed to do to stop the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993. (Were they purposely trying to fail to stop that bombing, just as they purposely tried to fail to stop the attack on 9/11?)
In short, this book is everything the 9/11 Commission was not. The two books taken together, along with the report from the Aspin-Brown Commission, give us a good sense of what really happened on the road to 9/11.
Having personally been a part of the CIA when it was committing high crimes and misdemeanors in Central America, and having been a youth in Vietnam when the CIA was in charge of the Phoenix assassination program and learning how to fly drugs and launder money for Vietnamese warlords, but also based on my extensive reading, I believe the three core propositions in this book are as follows:
- For years both the CIA and FBI managed clandestine relations with those who destroyed the World Trade Center, and generally concealed and obstructed Justice investigations after 9/11 for fear this would be discovered;
- Both the Clinton and Bush White Houses actively supported the Taliban and the secret Enron negotiations with the Taliban to build a pipeline through Afghanistan, so as to supply comparatively inexpensive Caspian Basin natural gas to a multi billion dollar Enron project in India whose success was entirely dependent on the construction of said pipeline.
- As early as July 2001, two months prior to 9/11/2001, the Bush White House was already planning to invade Afghanistan and had all of the operational plans drawn up; 9/11 then served as a PearlHarbor-like pretext for the already-planned invasion.
Having read most of what has been written by Brzezinski, Kissinger, and others, I find completely credible the author's speculation that the U.S., the U.K., and France, among others, had been actively using terrorists and nurturing terrorists (as part of a covert geopolitical and economic strategy), and that in their naà ¯vetà ©, they inadvertently nurtured a growing power (al Qaeda and/or the worldwide terrorist network, however it be labeled) which they are now unable to control.
