They Can't Help Themselves

First of all, this article's not about the Petraeus Affair.

Romney's in the news again, showing up like a bad penny, or in his case, a bad quarter of a billion dollars, telling his big money supporters that he lost the election because Obama gave a lot of big "gifts" to those infamous "takers": "especially the African-American community, the Hispanic community and young people."

His running mate Paul Ryan says that Obama won because he got the "urban" vote -- you know, those same takers (we need not say their names!) -- even though the Democrats, including Obama, also won in overwhelmingly white and rural areas.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) is appalled and repeats his call for the Republican Party to stop dividing the electorate. He so dearly wants to save the Republican Party from itself. The party without a soul is searching desperately for a soul.

Despite Jindal's best efforts at conciliation towards Romney's entitled "47%," here comes Fox News piling on (as it tends to do) saying that Romney got more votes from married women but lost out among single women.

Why? Because married women "care about the future" and are more "responsible." As for single women? Who knows? Fox doesn't say, but perhaps it's "sex, drugs and rock and roll."

I'm sorry Gov. Jindal: your fellow Republicans can't help themselves. Scapegoating the oppressed is in their blood. They can't be Republicans without pointing the finger of blame. What, after all, would happen to Rush Limbaugh if he stopped scapegoating people? He'd whither into nothingness like the Wicked Witch of the West and all that would be left is an oversized suit and a pile of painkiller pill bottles.

Meanwhile, Obama is warning people in his base that he's going to disappoint them with "bitter pill s" in the budget negotiations over the so-called "fiscal cliff."

The excuse is already prepared. It's been used before, a tried and true talisman: it's those damn Republicans. "They made me do it." You know, like the classic batterer's excuse.

For the Republicans, it's those entitled huddled masses that are at fault.

For Obama, it's those Republicans who are to blame. He wanted to do otherwise, but they just won't let him.

All of which raises a question: if they can't help themselves, can we help our selves?
