The drama has started in Pakistan from the morning. First the US drone has hit a target in Waziristan tribal region killing several people. That was the breaking news of all the TV channels and newspapers. Later the terrorists started a big attack on Lahore, which is being considered the heart of Pakistan. According to reports, more than thirty-nine people died during coordinated militant attacks on police in Pakistan's cities of Lahore and Kohat on Thursday, according to combined death tolls released by officials.
In Lahore, gunmen armed with grenades and suicide vests stormed a commando academy in the suburb of Bedian, another police school in the Manawan area previously attacked in March and offices of the Federal Investigation Agency.
"A total of 14 people were killed in Manawan, including four terrorists. Nine were police officials and one was unidentified," Lahore city police chief Pervez Rathor said revising up an earlier toll of four dead at the academy.
"Search operations are going on in different parts of the city. There are threats of more attacks, he said.
At Bedian, Major General Shafqat Ahmad, the top military commander in Lahore said seven people died before the security forces wrested back full control.
"We have seen five bodies of terrorists lying there. Some were killed in action by our security forces, some blew themselves up," said Ahmad.
"One (police) nursing assistant died in the clash at the entrance and one civilian guest also died," he said.
After a suicide vehicle bombing in the northwest town of Kohat near Peshawar, police spokesman Fazal Naeem said 11 people were killed, including three policemen.
According to latest report, several people were injured in a blast on Kohat Road of Peshawar, Geo News reported Thursday.
According to police sources, the blast occurred near Gulshan Rehman Colony situated at Kohat Road in Peshawar.
According to an eyewitness, the blast occurred at a flat in Officers Colony causing the three-storey building to collapse. There are reports that several people are trapped under the debris.
The colony houses the employees of the provincial secretariat.
Police have put security cordon around the blast site. Emergency has been declared in the hospitals.
According to Incharge of Ehdi Center Peshawar Sher Gul, he transported nine injured and a body of a child to the hospital.
