US-PAK: Core Friends and Mutual Cooperation

Message Muhammad Irfan

On November 16, 2015, the Pakistan Army Chief Raheel Shareef has set on his five days official visit to USA. He would meet his counterparts in WashingtonDC and discuss the bilateral cooperation on Afghanistan's grave situation specifically. This visit may be the harbinger of significant happenings in both Pakistani domestic politics and the international Geo-politics. However, analysts view it as the prominent pace with regard to the ongoing efforts against militancy particularly when the presence of IS in Afghanistan is perceived as a nascent threat. Remarkably, the cooperation between USA and Pakistan is mandatory for bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan. The recent official visit of Laurel Miller, the US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, to Pakistan has also affirmed the necessity of the mutual cooperation and understanding in order to stabilize the region.

Afghanistan, in fact, is a land of which global and strategic worth can not be denied in the present scenario. It is much focused region of the international politics since the US led global campaign against terrorism had begun in 2001. Therefore, there is no second opinion on the vital cooperation between the outsider powers and the regional stakeholders. Pakistan is also a prominent stakeholder in the ongoing great game in Afghanistan. So, the friendly proximity between USA and Pakistan is the need of the time if the world community wants peace and stability in the Afghanistan. This agenda of peace and stability is also keenly required because of the following factors;

If US want to make the regional harmony possible but Pakistan stands absent in this desired agenda, then the outcome is not satisfactory in the long run.

If US, on the same paths, want to continue the deployment of the US troops further for the desired period in Afghanistan but Pakistan remains unwilling to provide its territorial access for the US logistic, the required shipment of vehicles and equipment would absolutely become difficult for the American forces. Speaking more frankly, if US plans to ally with Taliban against IS in Afghanistan, the desire of alliance, without Pakistan's willingness to cooperate, would never be achieved.

Similarly, Pakistan needs the US cooperation for bringing peace and stability in the whole region. Actually, Pakistani establishment perceives Indian heinous activities in Baluchistan and Afghanistan as a strategic fork in the achievement of the vested interests of stability in the region. Pakistan's socio-economic growth on the other hand is much dependent on the completion of the CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor).

In this regard, the absence of the militancy in all forms in the Baluchistan is particularly required. For the purpose, US candid cooperation and responsible attitude are significantly required. Simply, US should convince New Delhi to cease its secret cells to destabilize Pakistan. Secondly, Pakistan on the diplomatic horizon needs friendly community in the global arena. It needs the fraternal diplomatic relations. Therefore, USA for Pakistan is still perceived among the core friends.

In the debated all factors of the frank closeness between the two sides, every view is crucial. If one is missing, the coveted results are at stake. Finally, the candid cooperation between the two sides in bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan should be the much focused point of discussion with US Officials in General Raheel Shareef's ongoing visit.
