How is it possible, the activists ask, that Obama continues to perpetrate the treachery of the Bush regime? How can he continue the wars of lies in Iraq and Afghanistan, the spying on American citizens, the protection of Bush administration criminals from justice, the cover-up of torture, the transfer of atrocities from Guantanamo to Bagrham, the trashing of our Bill of Rights, etc. etc. And then the solutions: If we only knew the truth of 9-11, the truth about torture, about the run-up to invading Iraq, the claims of weapons of mass destruction, etc. etc. -- then all the treachery could be stopped. And each activist group has its own slant, its own interrogative, its own unique panacea to restore decent governance to America. But always: How is it possible that Obama continues in the treachery?
The answer is simply that Obama's masters exert more powerful influence upon him than we do, that is those of us who are aware of the subversion. "Their" support and machinations gave him his job and will gild his future. All that is required of him is his loyalty to "them." You may well imagine what it would take to overcome such rewards or the consequences for him to deny such.
The wars will continue and will spread if that is what "they" desire. Constitutionality will continue to be subverted. Lies will continue as will such abominations as torture, and elections rigged when such will be to "their" advantage. The invisible hand of economics has been supplanted by the clutches of greed, lust for power and madness, and constitutionality by control. The Bill of Rights remains in the grave Bush dug for it. The citizens are the enemy and our communications monitored to detect and interdict any misbehavior. Posse comitatus has fallen to the exigencies of the War on Terror, a priority above any notions of democracy, the Ten Commandments, and truth. If America is not truly dazed and reeling, then it is simply dead.
What of resuscitation? Change? The future? History presages four possible variations of fate for our future, here listed in order of decreasing attraction:
(1) An epiphany that finally gifts the citizenry with the insight into the rottenness of our governance and the necessity to change such by direct passive action such as their massive (millions) enduring presence (weeks, months, however necessarily long) at the seat of government (DC) and not to leave until peace and decent governance are assured.
(2) Revolution.
(3) Armed action against America by the decent governments of the world who will have lost patience with the treachery wrought internationally by our government.
(4) Probably the worst of all the possibilities: things would not change but achieve a rotten permanence or perhaps get even worse.
My very strong preference is for the first of these, but if that is to be the future then work needs to be done to make that happen. Yes, if the whole truth of 9-11 were to be revealed, that would indeed motivate action by the citizens in the necessary direction, but the revelation of such truth will not be gained simply because it is the nice or the right, even necessary thing to do. That truth is too destructive for "them" to allow it to be uncovered at the risk of their exposure, perhaps complicity, their fall from power and impoverishment, and the real threat of their criminal prosecution.
In summary, what all this means is that we can't get from where we are to the truth of 9-11, the truth of the motivation to attack on Iraq, the trashing of our Constitution, etc, then on to decent governance without first assembling the forces necessary to move those issues onto America's agenda, an agenda that will be disallowed by incumbent power unless forced otherwise by citizen action.
History records no tyranny that was brought down simply by relatively few citizens indicating its treachery. The Nazis were not brought down by the judgment they were despicable, King George not brought down by the pronouncements of Jefferson, Adams and Paine, but by massive force.
This is persuasive that our efforts should be directed not at resolving any one particular issue such as 9-11, however compelling the appeal but impossible in the realization, but to work on assembling the forces to mandate America's agenda while there is still the possibility to do so with passive action, massive passive and enduring action that insists upon positive response from "them" and their operatives who run America.
We need to get off the activist-hobbyism, enough with the signs on the street corners, and the weekend larks on the Mall, and get to work on uniting America's activists for really the first time. If we can each forgo our individual organization's favorite schtick and nuance of message and unite in common cause on the steps of power we can expose the treacherous for the cowards they are and take back our Constitution, and national morality, and America.
There is no defensible reason to maintain our parochialism at the expense of losing America forever and quite possibly endangering even humanity. We need to get together and control this beast before it devours us all.
