Even The KKK is outraged!

Vituperative: adj., - insulting, abusive, offensive. In other words, a word that sums up the Westboro Baptist Church and its clan.

Yet They Are Not Alone

Everyone agrees that delighting in a tragedy such as the Newton shootings is extremely offensive and lacking in common decency, yet there are some who seem to agree with the latest actions of the Westboro Baptist Church.
Bryan Fischer :

"The question is going to come up, where was God? I though God cared about the little children. God protects the little children. Where was God when all this went down. Here's the bottom line, God is not going to go where he is not wanted."

There might be a difference in God Hates America versus God Abandons America, but the difference is slight when viewed through the eyes of a tragedy such as the Newton school shootings. Fischer's attack on "prayerless" schools places God in the same image as Phelps' vicious, jealous God: a vainglorious deity who despises those who do not pay homage to Him at all times. God has, in fact a kind of righteous arrogance copied by Fischer and Phelps.

Or maybe God copies His righteous arrogance from them.

And there are some people who stand dangerously close to Bryan Fischer's reasoning.

Hate Begetting Hate Begetting Hate, Begetting ... To Infinity

When hate groups turn on each other, the thought is both frightening and fascinating at the same time: one has to stand in awe of a group doing something so vile that the likes of the KKK would plan a counter-protest against it. The image of a burning cross on the grounds of Westboro Baptist Church is an ironic one of hate begetting hate, a revenge for the angst created by Fred Phelps and his clan. The only problem with this kind of hate is it begets more hate and innocent people get caught in the crossfire: a bittersweet story to be sure.

The group of hackers known as "Anonymous" have also added to the fray with the announcement that they will destroy the Westboro Baptist Church (see below). The video which was added to the Westboro site yesterday conjures up all the voices of God one can imagine:

"We will not debate, argue or attempt to reason with you. Instead we have unanimously deemed your organization to be harmful to the population of the United States of America and therefore have decided to execute an agenda of action which will progressively dismantle your institution of deceitful pretext and extreme bias"We recognize you as serious opponents and do not expect our campaign to terminate in a short period of time."

The Fringe Of Violence

Playing the fringe of violence is dangerous, but The Westboro Baptist Church revels in the possibility, putting themselves and their indoctrinated children in harm's way: grief-stricken people are apt to react unpredictably since their emotions are at their peak and the repugnant machinations of the WBC have always been powder kegs of rage. People marvel that the church itself has not been burned to the ground or that the members have not been brutally beaten during their protests. They may be comic figures to some, but there is nothing funny or pathetic about them to family members of fallen soldiers or hate crime victims ... or to people for whom (like the WBC) hatred has become a way of life. So if the KKK meets Westboro ...

Some would call the violent results of such a meeting poetic justice, but would there ever be justice for WBC wannabees like Brayn Fischer of the American Family Association?
