BERRYVILLE -- A candidate for county clerk filed a legal motion Friday, saying an electronic voting machine in the Carroll County clerk's office here was malfunctioning and asking that the rest of early voting be conducted at the paper ballot booths.

Kendrick's legal filing included an affidavit from Circuit Judge Kent Crow saying the judge voted May 4, touching the screen for Kendrick, but a check mark appeared for Correia. Crow said he thought he might have erred and he corrected it on the screen.

Ten days later, his secretary, Nadine Holland, had the same experience on the same machine, she said in her affidavit.

The voting machines at Farmington Baptist Church were not working, causing all voters to have to use paper ballots. One person there said technical support staff had already been to the location to examine the voting machines and were on the way back to work on them again. As of 8 a.m. the machines were not working.
Washington County Election Commission fixed the problems before noon.
