In response to Governor Scott Walker's reprehensible proposal to slash $834 million from the state of Wisconsin's education budget, I would like to make a counter-proposal. We should spend more on education and less on...

          ...standardized tests
          ...bailouts for failed corporations
          ...bonuses for bankers
          ...Viagra
          ...Microsoft products
          ...building bombs
          ...coal-fired power plants
          ...prisons
          ...fast food
          ...military support for dictators
          ...tobacco
          ...political advertising
          ...Justin Bieber haircuts
          ...high fructose corn syrup
          ...bottled water
          ...drugs
          ...skinny jeans
          ...etc.
(Additional suggestions are welcome)

Education is an investment in the future. If we live in an information society, it's only because throughout the twentieth century the US made huge investments in its public education system. Now that we have arrived in the twenty-first century, ill-informed bean counters at every level of government have decided that education funding can be sacrificed in favor of other priorities. Other priorities!?

Cutting education funding is like cutting our collective throats. Every dime that we put toward education helps to cultivate more opportunities for the next generation to make the world a better place. We need a new set of budget priorities right now, and public education needs to top the list.

Thus, I invite anyone to propose additional items for the above list and, thereby, amplify the call for more and better public education in the future.

I welcome your input.
