When the individual wants to be in charge of himself with his own individual rights we in the U.S. have no problem with that. We know that we do not want our individual business dictated to us by a tyrant telling us how to conduct our own affairs. We have no trouble figuring out that almost self-evident idea.
But when our need for collective group expression comes into question we seem to understand little. When government, that is supposed to be a group expression, of, by, and for the people, needs us to sacrifice some individual freedom for the good of the whole, suddenly we are quivering in our boots. When we run into an idea that is truly group empowering and by necessity has to demand some sacrifice from the individuals to reach consensus, well then you pretty much had better forget it when it comes to the group IQ in this cowboy mentality country.
In theory we want group control of group things but in reality we are scared. For any time we merge in a group we are going to feel how powerless one individual is when outnumbered in a group. So we find ourselves listening instead to lying flattering political representatives who tell us what we want to hear and we rally around him or her hoping that that individual will be our mouthpiece.
Most of us seem never to have sat down and realized that for everyone to be fairly represented and for any unity of purpose to come forth--so that the group is a living integrated whole and everybody is fairly included, and protected--many compromises must be made by the single individuals of that group.
A corporation is ( or was ) a smaller group than a country and the ruler is not elected. The head of a corporation owns [Ed: partly owns, perhaps] the corporation and owns much of the profit of the labor of his employees. And as with countries, where a president has so much power that he can rarely be challenged, corporate heads have over time changed the law in their favor. What has happened is that corporations are declared legal entities and are legally responsible when all the while it is the corporate king or owner pulling all the strings behind the scenes and getting away scot free. Corporations are declared legal entities like persons but they are actually artificial entities leaving the real human entities behind the scenes free to do whatever. The power of the corporation was so legally enabled with more and more laws propping it up over time that now a few have morphed to be multi-national monsters.
So here we have something with the power of a group but under almost complete domination by one individual who is not however legally responsible because the laws are set up that way. Talking about license to do any God damn thing !!! Multi-national entities under the rule of one or few legally answerable to no one ( except for an occasional trial here and there ). This is a recipe for a planetary disaster.
All the while the ordinary couch potato citizen is unaware that his country has been taken over secretly by a handful of multinational corporations and banks who eat little countries for breakfast, lunch and supper. And you never hear about it because corrupt corporations now own the media as well.
All the while the individual who is still obsessed with fear of any idea related to deep cooperative activities, ideas like socialism, or communism, ( not Marxist communism because that was not a real communism ) or coops, or new age communities, does not even notice he has few rights these days to obsess over. Lack of any real group cohesion that unites the average citizens allows the eating away of individual rights and with that our individual and group prosperity.
Our rights disappear by virtue of the fact that there was no group action to safeguard the rights of individuals or groups. It takes sane reasonable individuals to make a good group and good group cohesion to protect itself and its individuals but that simple almost self-evident fact seems to have gone unnoticed here in cowboy country where you would think we were all alone on a vast plain with nothing but Nature to contend with. Talking about having your head buried in the sand.
Where do you see a town meeting where people sit and discuss local goings on? Almost nowhere.
And since that void is almost total it will be a very easy thing for the government to make town meetings illegal as well as any peaceful citizen organizing, and tighten the invisible noose around our necks still further. And when push comes to shove we did it by ourselves to ourselves by neglect of any development of any group IQ.
Any country where a bozo like Rush Limbaugh has a big following must have a group IQ of near zero.
