Who Is the Pope to Judge?

The Pope said, "If a person is gay, and is seeking the Lord and have good will, who am I to judge?"   Not only that, but "gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten."   I agree.

People of all races and sexual persuasions should not be kept from representing the Catholic religion. They all have something valuable to bring to the table.

This is a great step forward for the Catholic Church.   My issue is that he went on to say, regarding female priests, "that the Church has already spoken on that."   And what the Church has said is that "the door is closed" to ordaining women to the priesthood.   He went on to say that "the Church must develop a more profound role for women ."

More profound than the Blessed Mother, more profound than Saint Bernadette, more profound than Mother Teresa, Mother Angelica, St. Joan of Arc, Our Lady of Fatima, should I go on? I don't know if the Pope has noticed, but women are also "persons" who seek the Lord and they also have good will, yet their roles as leaders in the Catholic Church are summarily dismissed.

The Catholic Church, rancid with male priest on male subject sexual abuse, welcomes the "gay" priest, but denies the female priest for no other reason than that she is "female."   She has no voice, no role, no power for no reason other than that she was born a woman.   She is welcome to seek the Lord all she wants as long as she does not overstep the boundary of her sex.

Gee, now where have I heard that before?   She is welcome to teach, to prophecy, to labor, suffer and to die for the Lord, but she is unworthy of being equal to the male priest.   In the year 2013, women are to be kept in their place, and wherever that place IS, where it is not is sharing the leadership of the Catholic Church.   Well, land o' Goshen, where ARE my bustles and high-button shoes?

I am a middle-aged free-lance writer and published poet. I live in Baltimore with two doggies and one husband. I am most happy looking for seashells at the beach or driving through panoramic Amish country in search of decadent baked goods.
