I watch election coverage in Massachusetts and I am flabergasted! Why would anyone in Massachusetts-a normally liberal and progressive majority- be losing a race to fill the late Senator Kennedy's seat? While the rest of America's progressives revere Senator Kennedy for all his selfless hard work for civil equality and healthcare for all...the people that have the power of their vote to fill his seat with a Democrat that stands for the same ideals are sitting idle letting the Republican take the lead.
I think many Democrats and Independents have very short memories.
Did we just get enamored of the idea of a black president or do we stand for the ideals that make us proud to carry the name Democrat?
Have we forgotten what we stand for?
Less war...more money for the poor.
Smart government with less waste.
Government that works for the middle class and gives less "gifts" to the wealthy.
Senators that see themselves as public servants instead of "glory hogs"?
National Security that is effective and includes diplomacy instead of the "cowboy" mentality of shoot all the bad guys - no matter what the economic costs and real threat to our future security.
Have we forgotten what the Republicans stand for?
More tax breaks for the wealthy.
Keeping the Industrial Military Complex consuming a large portion of our economy instead of investments in jobs and education.
Policies that protect mega corporations like the insurance companies at the expense and suffering of American people?
The use of propaganda and lies to influence hard-working decent American's to vote against their own interests?
Using their position to advance their political and economic goals?
Have we forgotten where the policies of the Republicans got us?
