If you believe certain Republicans who have anointed Mitt Romney as the next president I have a binder full of reasons they are wrong. First, as I wrote in my last column comparing the American economic comeback under Obama in 2012 to the recovery under Reagan in 1984, America is coming back from the crash President Obama inherited from Republicans.
Second, voters in Ohio largely agree with me, often credit Obama and know Mitt Romney attacked Obama's auto recovery program and would return to the policies of George W. Bush. And third, of course, female voters. Barack Obama and I support equal pay for Republican women as much as Democratic women, while Mitt Romney and Republicans oppose equal pay for both!
Let's give a standing ovation for the most popular former president alive today, Bill Clinton, who has done more to re-elect a successor president than any former president in memory. Bill Clinton's support for Obama, Obama's naming Hillary Clinton to be his fabulous secretary of State, and now Mitt Romney's insults of Secretary Clinton in his attempt to exploit the death of Americans in Libya all continue to help Obama today.
My last two columns detail the American economic comeback under President Obama, which are highlighted by the great economic comeback in Ohio. My guess is that Ohio voters remember that Obama was there for them, and they will be there for him.
What was stunning about the second presidential debate was how Obama powerfully demonstrated support (again) for the rights, security, prosperity and aspirations of women while Romney (again) offered a binder full of reasons that women will ultimately vote against him by a significant margin.
Mitt Romney opposes equal pay for women. Period. Shame on him. Romney tried to bob, weave, dodge, hedge, etch, sketch, change the subject and avoid the issue, but it didn't work. Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democrats, House Democrats and the entire Obama administration would spend the next four years fighting for women's pay equity while Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, House Republicans and Senate Republicans would spend the next four years fighting against pay equity for women.
When Romney claimed he asked for the famous binder of qualified women he could not pass a polygraph test because he did not ask for it, the women of Massachusetts offered it to him.
Meanwhile, Romney continues his crusade against Planned Parenthood, which is supported by many Republican as well as Democratic and independent women, and provides vital services offered to all women, including invaluable help on challenges such as breast cancer.
Romney and Republicans continue to champion their candidate for senator from Missouri, Todd Akin, who speaks of legitimate rape. Have they no shame?
Romney continues his campaign to overturn Roe v. Wade, while his vice presidential nominee has opposed choice even for women who are victims of rape and incest.
Romney would name justices to the Supreme Court who would overturn Roe v. Wade and start a virtual domestic civil war over a matter that a majority of women and independents believe was settled long ago.
And, don't forget this, Romney would name Supreme Court justices similar to the five conservative men on the Supreme Court who have opposed women even having their day in court to seek pay equity. And I would add, Scott Brown in Massachusetts also admires Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe and oppose equal pay for women.
Don't bet against the Comeback Kid supporting the president who built the current economic comeback. Don't expect women to be fooled by a Republican who opposes equal pay for them, and whose latest multiple-choice position would destroy their right to choose. And don't be surprised if voters in Ohio continue their support for the president who was there for them, and who I predict will be there for him on Election Day.
