BuzzFlash has long maintained a policy of not endorsing any candidate in the Democratic Presidential primary. We will, of course, back the winner of the nomination, no matter what. The alternative of another Republican administration would be a death sentence for democracy; it just about has been.
But there is no question -- whether one supports him or not -- that Dennis Kucinich deserves this week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award for shaming both parties into confronting an effort to impeach Dick Cheney on the House floor.
We'll let the BuzzFlash reader who nominated Kucinich take it from here:
"On Tuesday, November 6, 2007, in an impassioned speech to the House, Dennis Kucinich offered Bill 333, a proposal to proceed with Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney.Indeed, if this were a Democratic administration, successful impeachment proceedings would have been launched by the Republicans in Congress years ago. It is a testament to the mainstream media's and D.C. establishment's double standard that both the Republican and Democratic leaders consider any effort to impeach Cheney or Bush as an "embarrassment" to the Democrats, despite the documented chronic illegal behavior of the White House.
"Afterwards, in an interview with Wolf Blitzer, Dennis Kucinich explained that indeed, he had heard the voice of the American people, understood their desire to preserve the Constitution, agreed with their wishes to hold the administration accountable, and explained the charges against Cheney in detail. His demeanor was impeccable, his answers clear and precise, his reasoning, well thought out. Even those who are not Kucinich supporters agree that on Tuesday, November 6, 2007, Dennis Kucinich became an American Hero, and for that reason, I nominate Dennis Kucinich for the Wings of Justice award."
It's shameful that so many members of Congress sworn to uphold the Constitution turned their backs on it.
But Dennis Kucinich fearlessly did what needed to be done -- and for that, he merits this week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award.
