These men and boys have been in detention without a trial, many without charges, since they were rounded up in Afghanistan in 2002. Most of them are low-level Taliban fighters, who have never committed a terrorist act and have little or no useful information to offer.
Gitmo has been used as a laboratory for developing new methods of torture, physical and psychological, many specifically designed to break the spirit of Muslim men. These include desecrating the Qu'ran, forcing sexual practices that are abhorrent, terrorizing with dogs. The methods were then transferred to Iraq and used at the infamous Abu Ghraib prison. Reportedly, there are photos and videos from Abu Ghraib that the DOD refuses to release, because they are much more horrifying than those we have already seen.
The US is committing atrocious war crimes, especially in Gitmo, which is violating the Geneva Conventions. Veterans for Peace is calling for impeachment for these and other war crimes, such as using internationally banned weapons in Iraq- cluster bombs, napalm, and especially "depleted" uranium weaponry, which is highly radioactive and mainly targets civilians.
Some of the fasters at Guantanamo are being force-fed, given IV's, or stomach tubes. One has to wonder about the purpose of continuing to hold and torture these men, and continuing to deny them due process. Is the point to terrorize the rest of the world by showing the brutality the US is capable of? What has our country come to? The world is judging us. Can the American people not relent, repent of these evil deeds, and impeach those responsible?
Romans 2:5 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.
