On Monday, October 01, a small group of Stop the War & Impeach Bush & Cheney activists , held our 2nd “Honk To Impeach” in front of Representative Jim Saxton’s office in the 3rd Congressional District at 100 High St.
To our surprise upon our arrival we were greeted by reporters, and cameras. Who were very interested in what our group was trying to accomplish with our efforts. Yep….you read it right…..reporters….cameras….you remember those things we have been attempting to lure into showing up at events for the past 5 ½ years.
Needless to say, we were impressed with our welcome from the local people last week, but this week far surpassed that, as the air filled with the sound of horns and numerous enthusiastic yells.
People walked up to us to see what all the commotion was about, some even leaving their offices, to see who and what we were, why we were causing such a stir.
The reception we received was overwhelming, to say the least. It made you feel as if we were their conquering army coming to set them free from the stronghold of a vicious tyrant. I guess in a way we were, opening up a door way for them to express their dissatisfaction with the rubber stamp behavior of Jim Saxton to Bush’s antics.
Our demonstration this week just proves the people of this country are fed up with the war, and the crimes of this administration. When one of the Reddest Districts in New Jersey shows this much emotion, you know the Republicans are in trouble and the Democrats better do something besides worry about the next election.
But my story doesn't end here, the 1st week, when we did our first "Honk to Impeach", in front of Saxton's, we kept hearing this voice coming from somewhere yelling, "Honk to bring the troops home, Honk to Impeach".
Being the intersection we were located at is very busy during that time of day, we weren't able to distinguish who was making all that noise at first. Finally we determined is was a young boy about 8 or 9 years old sitting on the ledge of a store window. Eventually the School Crossing Guard persuaded the little guy to come over and join us, where he continued to promote the great response to our call for justice.
We were a little concerned this week when our little friend wasn't there to meet us, but it wasn't long before he showed up on the scene, and quickly took over the show . The energy and the passion shown by this precious child, would touch the hardest of hearts, and the people responded to his pleas.
Yet least we forget there are evil and hate filled morons who still walk this earth and completely portray the mean spirited ilk of Hannity, O'Reilly and Limbaugh . To our disgust, there were a couple of those mentally deficit leeches who shouted out racial slurs to our little patriot. For you see, our little patriot is black.
We hope this doesn't discourage our little friend from joining us next week, and some how he can see the vast majority were with him and not let the cutting remarks of a couple destroy a marvelous, intelligent future Martin Luther King.
PDA/ DFA Progressive Democracy South Jersey will endeavor to bring other groups out to join our current ones in the weekly demonstrations, to be held every Monday from 3:00 PM to 4:00PM in front of Saxton’s Office. Lets grow the momentum…lets increase the pressure…..join us.
