Mescal retired in March 1983 after 37 years of employment with the Air Force Civil Service having achieved the rank of GS11. Since that period she has been a devoted member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Augusta Chapter 101.
After retirement, Mescal relocated to Augusta, GA where she became a very active member in numerous community volunteer services. Included among these were AARP Chapter 266, the League of Women Voters, the Safe Communities Coalition, the Senior Citizens Council, the Richmond County Board of Elections and the Richmond County Democratic Party.
In October 1984, Mescal became one of the first volunteers with Shepeard Community Blood Center. In her 21 years of volunteer service, she logged 2,578 hours to their blood drive efforts, receiving numerous awards for her service dedication.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, to please make memorial contributions to Shepeard Community Blood Center (SCBC) at 1533 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904 (707-737-4551), or a blood donation in Mescal's honor at SCBC. With her passing, SCBC has lost a valued volunteer. In Mescal's honor, please consider volunteering at SCBC to continue her legacy.
