The War On Sex

After 9/11 Dubya had most of us believing Saddam had arsenals bristling with WMD and that world-threatening nukes were in the pipeline courtesy of raw materials from places like err ... Chad. Like most faith-based Christians, G.Dubya takes a lot of things on-faith, even when the things he's taking on-faith turn out to be false, very false or even completely-and-indisputably-false.

I'm sure if an angel of the Lord showed up at the Crawford ranch and told Dubya that Aids was caused by orange M & M's, the Pres would immediately issue a nationwide alert and have the HIV transmitting candies pulled off the shelves.

The thing about faith based folk is that they never learn, even if their mistakes are hauled out in front of them as evidence and someone whips them good for the error of their ways. It's like an internal blockage. Their attitude is "well it may seem all wrong to you, but see ... you don't get it". We don't get it of course because we aren't "saved", because seeing everything ass-backwards can only happen when you are in a redeemed condition.

The faith-based zealots find facts inconvenient and prefer to avoid them. They prefer the old "God moves in mysterious ways his wonders to perform" caveat, to explain away data that refutes their Victorian certitudes concerning all that's bad about teen sex.

Even as Bush pours millions into programs designed to stop teens from having sex, the data emphatically demonstrates that his thinking is wrong. This anti-sex funding is going into the coffers of cutting edge organizations in the field of science such as Youth for Christ and sundry anti-abortion groups who operate oddly named "crisis pregnancy centers".

Nothing so conclusively demonstrates how wrong the Bush thinking is on teen sex than the following data ... in Texas, from 1995-2000 when abstinence-only programs were in operation, the state ranked LAST in decline of teen birth rates among 15 to 17 year old females. This is because these neo-Victorian regimens don't work, not because Belzeebub and his cohorts made Texas the focus of a backsliding-into-hell campaign.

Bush seems to be headed into state-of-denial2. Back in Saddam's day instead of focusing on the real problem - Arab alienation (i.e.the Palestine issue) - he zoned in on WMD's. Now he's making the same mistake again. On the sex front, instead of focusing on AIDS prevention, sex education and backing scientific standards of prevention, he's focusing on WME ... Weapons of Mass Eroticism. According to Bush pals such as Dr. McIlhaney, condoms don't work, despite data to the contrary. Another progressive icon of science, one W. David Hagar, author of a must-read book titled " As Jesus Cared for Women: Restoring Women Then and Now" ... prayer is the best cure for pre-menstrual syndrome.

What next ... will he start ramping up the anti-sex rhetoric as a way of getting us all to cross our legs? Are sex alerts in our future ... 5 being low-to-intermediate horniness ... 1 being extreme and dangerous horniness on-the-loose. Will we see raids on the Playboy Mansion and on Hustler HQ in search of proscribed sex toys and tasteless/odorless orgasmic powder ... the latter reputedly employed by sexual insurgents, triggering a wave of orgasmic explosions that swept through a southern Baptist community (according to press release from Celibacy for Jesus News based in SayNo, Texas).

Fact is, 70% of teens have sex in the U.S. before the age of 18. Pornography is a huge and popular business. Advertising and fashion show no sign of backing off sex- appeal as a way of promoting product. We ARE a sexualized society George. Strolling into the room waving a bible and saying "stop it", cannot compete.

Why? Well, it's just not sexy enough.
