Last weekend I finished reading The Shell Game by Steve Alten. It is a wonderfully written, nail-biting novel that describes, among other things, a plan to attack US city, which is to be internally orchestrated to provide an excuse for us to bomb Iran. The book also includes some circumstantial evidence that the 19 hijackers on 9/11 probably may have had significant help from certain sectors of our government on that day.
The notion that a few high-level US officials might plan an attack on a US city and blame it on Muslim extremists isn’t restricted to people in the 9/11 truth movement. A figure no less than Zbigniew Brzezinski suggested this very thing. He is widely respected in geopolitical matters and as advisor to Jimmy Carter when the latter was President of the United States between 1977 and 1981 he was considered a "hawk among the doves." In testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on February 1, 2007, Brzezinski said:
“A plausible scenario for a military collision with Iran involves Iraqi failure to meet the benchmarks; followed by accusations of Iranian responsibility for the failure; then by some provocation in Iraq or a terrorist act in the U.S. blamed on Iran; culminating in a "defensive" U.S. military action against Iran that plunges a lonely America into a spreading and deepening quagmire eventually ranging across Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.”
A couple weeks ago, Michael Chertoff, head of Homeland Security, essentially told reporters that he fears the next 9/11, which could be a suitcase nuke. On February 14th, in threatening to veto a waterboarding ban, President Bush said, and I quote, “terrorists are planning new attacks on our country… that will make Sept. 11 pale by comparison.”
These ‘predictions’ by high government officials are like straight out of The Shell Game, and Brzezinski’s ‘plausible scenario.’ The Shell Game’s plot is happening as we speak. Does this frighten you as much as it does me?
In publishing, success is measured by the N.Y. Times best seller’s list. If you are in the top 15, your book receives special buy-ins, special placement on shelves and special media attention. Its title gets published in the top 100 newspapers every week.
Week before last, The Shell Game was listed as #31 on the N.Y. Times list of best-selling books. But this past week it was down a bit, to #33. The difference between #33 and #15 is about 12,000 sales in a week. If the sales of the book could go up to that level (#15) for, say, the next two weeks, a couple good things could happen: (a) The book’s success could bring about a break-through to the mainstream media to make it okay to discuss the subject of 9/11. This could hopefully lead to a truly independent re-investigation of the 9/11 attacks. (b) More importantly, it might actually expose another 9/11 before it happens.
Here’s my plea: 1. Buy a copy (or two!) of The Shell Game at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Borders, as these retailers are the ones who report to the NY Times. 2. Then please send this plea to those of your friends and relatives who you believe would be open to it.
There was a framed saying on the wall of the office of a professor at Temple University that said, “On the Plains of Hesitation bleach the bones of countless thousands who…upon reaching the dawn of victory chose to rest …and there resting were slaughtered.”
Let’s not hesitate. This isn’t about selling a book, it’s about stopping a possible home-grown terrorist attack and saving a democracy.
