I've Been Waiting For Some One To Stand Up

By Angie Pratt  Posted by Rob Kall (about the submitter)       (Page 1 of 1 pages)   2 comments
I've been waiting for some one to stand up and say Eureka! I know what to do. I know how to fix Iraq so that America can truly get out with honor. None of this face saving self-delusional proclamation stuff. You know, true honor.

No one has so far. The Democrats haven't. The Republicans haven't. George Bush hasn't.

Gee whiz! What wrong with everybody? Are they sitting on their hands waiting to be invited to speak up?

On second thought, I guess what this really means is that the problem is truly intractable. Nobody has a good idea.

If that isn't a scary thought, I don't know what is.

As much as I hate to admit it, I am beginning to switch my opinion. To date I've not been in favor of withdrawing from Iraq. I'm a known "pottery-barn rules" advocate. Getting out of Iraq sooner than later, however, is looking better and better.

Now that I am beginning to doubt that there is no good way out - in less that 50 years - I am entertaining the idea that splitting up the country is probably the only way out for us.

We let the Shiites rule the Shiites. The Kurds are in charge of the Kurds. And " the Sunnis are just going to have to get used to living in poverty, as they aren't going to end up with any oil. In the process, the United States gets out of the middle.

Of course, that means we'll have to give up on our nonpermanent permanent military bases we've been building over there. We'll also have to give up on our private desires of controlling Iraq's oil.

But Hey!" At least we'll be able to say that we toppled Saddam Hussein and checked his teeth.
