Not content with yesterday's insanity, Chris Matthews was back at it again tonight, playing softball as only he can. For the uninformed, Chris Matthews is an administration whore masquerading as a journalist. His show has degenerated into a nightly excuse-fest for the GOP and a sounding board for the party of power. Last night, with the president facing a 66% disapproval rating Matthews said:
"Everyone likes this president, except the whack-jobs on the left."
Not content to disparage the vast majority of Americans, Matthews came back tonight with a single agenda, to convince America that the slew of corruption infecting the Republican Party and this administration is a "non-partisan" phenomena. Not even through the first segment of the show tonight Matthews, while talking about the Republican Congressman Cunningham, proclaimed, "I think we have decided this kind of corruption is non-partisan." Well, thank you Chris for deciding for us, despite the facts.
Corruption as a rule is certainly non-partisan. The argument is not there. It is with describing the recent onslaught of egregious corruption as non-partisan in an attempt to share the blame with both parties, when there is only one party in control. The larger problem though is with an alleged independent journalist hosting an hour long program with the sole apparent purpose of misleading Americans. That is what the true problem is.
Randy Cunningham was a Republican Congressman. He swore to this country he was innocent. He broke down in tears when he was caught accepting over 2.4 million dollars in bribes including a yacht and a Rolls Royce. A person like Rush Limbaugh characterizes this as a "mistake." A mistake is losing your car keys, not accepting 2.4 million dollars in bribes. While we can expect such inane drivel from a man who has no soul left to sell such as Rush, Matthews is seen as more "mainstream" and that is where the danger lies.
Bill Frist, the top Republican in the Senate is under investigation for insider trading. For five years Frist insisted his ownership of stock in HCA was not a conflict of interest even though he was leading the charge for health care reform in the Senate. Then in June of this year he dumped all 18 million dollars of stock only to see the value of the stock lose 9% one month later. When asked about it in September he claimed he sold the stock to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest.
Tom Delay has so many ethical lapses it would take a book not an article to document them. The top Republican in the House is currently under indictment and has been previously admonished three times by his own party. That does not even begin to scratch the surface of the man who once claimed that HE was the constitution.
Dick Cheney's top man, Scooter Libby is currently under indictment for five felonies. Karl Rove, Bush's top guy is facing the same, or the possibility of cutting a deal. They are tied up in a scandal of the outing of a covert CIA operative for political revenge. The agent in question was actually working on WMD issues, the lie used to start this Iraq War. The underlining scandal here is the fact that this administration willfully lied to take this country into a war that has cost the lives of over 2,000 American soldiers and 100,000 + Iraqi's.
These are not just some Republicans, these are the leaders of the party and they represent the vilest form of corruption, a violation of the public trust. In the case of the outing of Valerie Plame, the corruption involves a violation of national security. Frist, Delay, Libby, Rove, Bush, Cheney, Cunningham" what's the theme we see here Chris? That's right, they are all Republicans. The current state of the Republican Party can only be described as a culture of corruption. Chris Matthews knows this very well, which is why he trying his best to convince us it is no big deal. It is time to tell MSNBC that Chris Matthews has to go.
