Western "Judeo-Christian" culture is all about destroying nature- lopping off mountaintops for coal, hunting whales to extinction, spewing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere without considering global warming, cutting down rain forests to create grazing land for McDonald's, drilling for oil in pristine wilderness - the list of insults goes on and on.
If we are to survive, we must respect Mother Earth. This means respecting and honoring the sacred sites of all peoples, especially those of indigenous peoples who still have a some understanding of how to live in harmony with the environment.
The Lakota (Sioux) have maintained their language and traditions with full understanding of the implica tions for this new millennium. They practice the sun dance, a sort of crucifixion, in order to take on world karma, just as Jesus did. They are a holy people, and Bear Butte is their holiest place.
There are plans to build a shooting range next to Bear Butte. The Lakota object strenuously, and have a petition to stop this project. You can join with them by signing online at http://www.petitiononline.com/1851site/petition-sign.html?
God, Wakan Tanka, wants His/Her creation to survive. By working with Native Americans, we can redirect the values of the US to survival, and respect for God and Mother Earth.
1 Jn 5:14Beloved:
We have this confidence in God,
that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
