"The Petraeus report goes to great lengths to paint a picture of progress in Iraq, but the truth is a far different story. As the New York Times and the Washington Post have reported, the declining number of deaths in Iraq that General Petraeus cites depends on a few accounting tricks: like not counting a death as an assassination if you're shot in the front of the head, and not counting deaths by car bombs.
So, what are we really doing in Iraq?
We're building and maintaining permanent military bases from which our military will ensure a near-monopoly of the world's second-largest oil reserve. All this... for a small cadre of corporate fatheads, including the top members of Bush, Inc. The American taxpayer will be burdened with footing the bill for security in Iraq ($2 billion PER DAY!) to provide stable working conditions for Exxon-Mobil, Shell, Halliburton, not to mention the dozens of corporations feeding off the military spend bosom."
You can't permit that understanding of reality in this country, it's too dangerous. People are free to express themselves, they can do things.
Therefore it is necessary to try to control thought to try to make it appear as if the only issue is a tactical one: can we get away with it. We take it for granted that we have the right to attack any other country, overthrow any other government, & if they try to defend themselves, that's just not allowed. They're not allowed to defend themselves.
Take a look at the morning news, there's a story about Iraq, breaking into peoples homes, no running water, no electricity, hundreds of Iraqis dead daily, mutilation, kidnapping, torture, rape....nobody wants to think about it. It's just too unpleasant, so we think about something else. The media uses terms like terrorist, civil-war, car-bombings to make it appear as if we have been attacked when in fact we are attacking Iraq, & then we act confused when they try to defend themselves. Some talk about atrocities, individual atrocities. Individual soldiers in the field are almost certain to conduct atrocities in every war. It's easy to blame them but the real atrocities were carried on in Washington, they were the lies that got us there, namely that Iraq had something to do with the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
End the lies now. Join me in a GENERAL STRIKE 09/11/2008, we won't end the war or change the world but it's time to say ENOUGH is ENOUGH!
Whether you call it the world financial structure, the U.S. culture of waste, or the ability of the common man to make a decent living, the system is broken. It's time for the common man to go on strike. Join or support the March on Washingon (
