Today, the Maine state Democratic convention passed a strongly worded resolution calling for the impeachment of Bush and Cheny. Two days ago, Brookline MA passed an impeachment resolution.
In Vermont, people in different towns are gathering signatures on petitions to call for special town meetings to consider impeachment. Bands are sponsoring "signature parties" at local pubs to speed the effort. By July, we will have a statewide network of peace and impeachment activists.
Alongside our growing, organized cry for impeachment, we will be getting committments from people to form peace brigades, and to join groups from all across the nation to go to Washington in Sept. as Camp Casey makes the move there from Crawford, Texas along with our slacker in chief.
Grassroots groups have been organized and are initiating effective actions in several states.
What is keeping you from doing the same?
Because you're not convinced that crimes have been committed, or that our Constitution is being violated? - not likely.
Because you think the Democrats will take care of it? - less likely.
Because you think it couldn't get any worse? - look up the definition of fascism.
Because you are a tiny minority in a sea of conservative/apathetic/closeminded neighbors? - take a look at Mr. Bush's popularity polls. Reach out and you will find solidarity in many more quarters than you can even imagine.
Because you are too busy? - how convenient for those who will put the screws to you soon enough.
There is no good reason not to start to take action in your community today. Start next door. Stop and have a conversation with the lone individual or group holding a peace vigil in your town. Make connections and organize. Visit impeachpac.org and afterdowningstreet.org. The framework for organizing is already in place. If you let us know what you're doing, we will offer assistance and expertise with any questions that may arise.
If you have made the effort to visit this site and read this, you, my friend have no excuse. You know what is necessary, please go for it.
