Okay, folks. If the attacks on the Constitution are unprecedented, and if rushes to war based on lies are unprecedented crimes, then it's time for us also to act in a way that is unprecedented in American history.
If politicians think they can literally get away with murder; if they think that they can even propose the very idea of clamping down on American freedom of thought; if they can so much as suggest that the Internet is a breeding ground for terrorists (S.1959);
And if Congress complicitly refuses to act on our behalf;
Then be it resolved that We the People of the United States of America, and the tax PAYers, demand the resignation from public office of:
Rep. Jane Harmon, for introducing S 1959, legislation to clamp down on free thought in America
Sen. Collins and Coleman, for introducing S 1959 into the Senate
Dick Cheney and George Bush, for spouting lies and fears to the public in order to rush us to yet one more war with Iran
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, for blocking impeachment (What's UNDER the table, Nancy?)
HERE'S HOW WE CAN GET THESE RESIGNATIONS TO EXIST IN REALITY AND NOT JUST IN DREAM LAND:
1) Write your favored activist organizations such as but not limited to:
Democrats.com, Center for COnstitutional Rights, Moveon.org, Credo, True Majority, The Pen, Courage Campaign et al
I did not mention the ACLU because having been a volunteer board member, I know for a fact that they keep a neutral position where candidates are concerned. So they won't get behind requesting the resignation of any official or of endorsing their candidacy.
2) Write a letter to your public editor urging the politicians above to step down, based on the facts linked in the articles/websites below. NOTE: It's important to state calm, cool facts and not ranting opinions. THe last thing we need is to turn people off! We need to convince them of the necessity for this unprecedented call, and facts are the tools we have to our disposal. Emotional rants will only hurt our campaign.
3) Quote as back-up to your positions the attorneys of national stature who themselves state that S 1959 clamps down on free thought, not on actions:
Caroline Frederickson, ACLU Legislative Director http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/112907.shtml
Center for Constitutional Rights echoes the same concern: www.ccrjustice.com enter Homegrown Terrorism into the search box and the fact sheets will come up
