Dear everybody:
What do we do if free speech on the Internet is lost to S. 1959? Bite your tongue!
On second thought, maybe don’t bite your tongue: We will not be silent!
Here are ways to continue right on with the work of activism, even if the Internet free speech is lost:
A) Create gift packets to hand out any time you see a car with a bumpersticker about 9-11 truths or other political matters. Leave a set of your favorite 9-11 truth DVD’s which you have (inexpensively) downloaded, on the car’s windshield. (Beware of car alarms screeching “Homegrown terrorist!” ) You can also hand these packets out to like-minded friends.
B) Hand out gift packets of Naomi Wolf’s “The End of America” to friends and especially mail them in to politicians, alongside any letters of concern which you write to them.
C) Contribute books, DVD’s, articles, etc to the libraries and this will help to spread word. Send copies in to your Congressperson (important way to sway their concerns to the socially helpful causes).
D) Arrange speaker events to publicize the issues.
E) Letters to the editor are the most-read pages in the newspaper, are read by politicians as indicators of public opinion, and are a good way to influence pro-activity. To avoid being dubbed a “terrorist”, you can use a pen name, mail the letter rather than e-mail it, and unfortunately you must give your address and phone number (The latter can be googled to find out who you are). Just keep your fingers crossed.
F) Contact your favorite grassroots organization, using the contact button on their website, and bring matters of concern to their attention, asking them to circulate e-mail petitions etc. Contact your favorite radio show hosts such as Democracy Now, Guns and Butter, Thom Hartmann, etc and ask them to air the issues.
G) Last but not least, you can dial in to radio talk shows yourself and anonymously weigh in, using a made-up name (to avoid being targeted as a "terrorist"). You can also call from a public phone using a pre-paid phone card (for which you have paid with cash and not credit cards or checks), which will render the call untraceable to you, your home or to any other friends.
HERE’S HOW TO ARRANGE A SPEAKER EVENT FOR MINIMAL COST:
A) Retirement centers often open up their facilities to the public for events, free of cost. Libraries also may offer facilities at low cost or no cost, and are good eye-catchers for your event.
B) Colleges usually have student activist groups, which may be able to arrange for you to use their facilities at reduced cost or free of charge, if they as an organization co-sponsor the event along with you or your organization. Co-sponsors can also include your local Democratic Committee, ACLU Chapter Board, etc the more the merrier, because the cost is shared and e-mail publicity is increased (which is also free advertising). Win-win!
C) To effectively advertise the event, let journalists know about the speaker you have jointly hired with the organizations above, and ask them to do a feature article about the event. Free advertising!
D) Music and other performing arts at the event are good public attractions. Food doesn’t hurt either, if contributed free of cost.
