In Chicago, we are planning to go off into a corner of the park and do a Youth Speak Out discussion for about 45 minutes to an hour before heading off and marching to Federal Plaza in the Chicago Loop. This will happen in Union Park. Those semantics are not important. I need your help with formulating a statement that will get people to rally for Dennis and support him.
Now, know the audience:
I went to a U.S. Fascism Awareness Event tonight which was combating a David Horowitz Islamofascism Awareness Week at DePaul University. Afterwards, I spoke out and the group I was speaking to was 10-12 dedicated people from the World Can't Wait---Drive Out the Bush Regime---organization. So, you have to know they don't like Obama because he is pro-war. And no for Hillary. I'm sure a few think Kucinich or Ron Paul but for the most part, they do not care about the electoral process or our democracy. The structures to them based on free market philosophy/capitalism/republic and democratic ideals, etc. are all what is fueling this "war on terror." They explicitly wish to speak about stopping a war with Iran more than ending the war in Iraq because when they were about to put Stop the War with Iran on flyers for the Oct 27th rally and march, the slogan was removed because they were afraid groups would pull out if that was attached.
So...I spoke out here. And what I said (which was inherently radical) was that if you really want to stop a war with Iran you have to go after Cheney. You cannot just say stop the war with Iran because that doesn't get anything done. Cheney believes government can authorize a war without going to Congress.
I continued but it was here that I got a majority disapproving of me and making noise shrugging me off trying to get me to shut up and quit talking even if they understood where I was coming from because it was counterproductive to the movement they wished to begin mobilizing more than ever before. The leaders of World Can't Wait after I had told them they had been marginalized and are no longer effective at reaching the powers that be were totally outraged.
I kept going though and said impeachment of Cheney then Bush is what we have to do. That's how you defund the Iraq War and stop war with Iran. I added that we have to support this American Freedom Campaign to repair our Constitution. I never got to Kucinich because like I said I could tell most would not ever in their life campaign for an individual and I needed to wait before speaking for him so I stuck to the issues---the big picture. I ended saying we really should impeach Pelosi and Reid too because they are knowingly preventing a defunding of the Iraq war from happening.
I will get to talk more tomorrow night and have time to prepare for Saturday. But if I still have people (and thanks for reading), this is an opportunity to speak for Kucinich and get young people on our side who will be the future leaders of America.
They told me I can't rally people around a pro-peace message because it's too broad and a negative message of no war with Iran and end the war with Iraq is the best way to get America off of this downward spiral. I disagree tremendously.
So, from you here is what I need. Please help me form a statement for:
-Why we should defund the war and put in U.N. forces
-Why we should focus on impeachment to end this terror on Iraq and soon Iran
-Why students should campaign for Dennis instead of Ron Paul in regards to foreign policy
-Why we should work within a democracy that is broken; why they should not let themselves be disenchanted
-Why they can be revolutionaries and still support Dennis
-Why we need to focus on a broad idea of peace rather than a simplistic idea of just stopping wars
-Why they need to support Dennis and also go after House members and Senate members refusing to defund the war
