President Bush, our military deserve a vacation away from Iraq

As President Bush chided Senate Democrats for going on vacation with the war supplemental bill not being resolved to his liking, my first reaction was; oh just when are we going to get our much needed vacation from President Bush?

The reason I say to his liking is because it sets a time line for our troops to leave Iraq.  He is truly a man alone when he did not hear what the American people told him this past Election Day.  I bet as many Americans were voting, their thoughts were, oh please let this be the end of Bush’s rule over our country as well as the GOPs.  Well no such luck was to be had especially when the GOP as well does not get it.  No, they would rather keep our troops over there.

In this scolding of Democrats this is what President Bush had to say, "the price of that failure will be paid by our troops and their loved ones," Well now, President Bush do I have a bone to pick with you when it comes to failures and who has paid the price.

Right now there is a hole in the ground in NY City called Ground Zero.  It was through your incompetence that it is there.  It was prior to this attack that President Bush was on his first of many month-long vacations.  For a man that wanted to be president, he has sure taken many of them.  Meanwhile 3,000 victims who perished on that day will never get another vacation.

Bush ignored many of the warnings prior to that horrific event and he dares to lecture the Democrats?  Richard Clarke who served under several administrations as an expert in counter-terrorism warned President Bush of Al Qaeda, but Clarke was ignored.  Bush also ignored the Hart/Rudman report which came out shortly after he took the oath of office.  President Bush sure likes to ignore warnings and we pay the price.

While on vacation prior to 9/11 it was reported he received terrorist threats and did nothing with them.  Some would say; what should he have done?  Perhaps warn the American people is my answer.  A while back NY City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg received a threat to the subway stations and while it turned out to be a hoax and not credible he warned his city.  At least it gave the citizens of that city a fighting chance should that threat have turned out to be real.

President Bush also stated, "Congress's most basic responsibilities (are) to give our troops the equipment and training they need to fight our enemies and to protect our nation. They're now failing in that responsibility," President Bush should look at that supplemental bill since it does fund our troops; it just has that pesky provision calling for the end of this war by redeploying of our troops.  What is holding up those much needed funds is President Bush's threat of a veto.  So, who is not supporting our troops?  It is President Bush.

Let us speak of responsibility; it was and still is President Bush's responsibility to protect us from terrorists.  It is President Bush's on-going responsibility to capture Osama bin Laden as he said, "Dead or alive" which he later on said of his capture that he "did not know where he is...he was not important...and was not our priority." My children at times ask me where he is and I plainly state President Bush has failed Americans in not capturing him.  See, even children still ask where bin Laden is.

As I read this statement coming from President Bush, "The bottom line is this: Congress's failure to fund our troops on the front line also means that some of our military families could wait longer for their loved ones to return from the front lines," No, these military families will have their loved ones home sooner rather than later if it were not for President Bush's stubbornness.  Over these past four years as I have written of this war, I have heard from military families who have been beside themselves wondering when their loved ones will come home.  In answering their emails, all I could do was listen, but did not have an answer for them.

A man by the name of Matt who once worked at my favorite grocery store until it closed became a dear friend of mine.  I would sit and listen as his time grew closer in which he would have to leave for Iraq.  He is married and has a baby.  The last time I saw Matt he was in his fatigues only days away from heading to Baghdad. I think with Matt’s redeployment to Iraq, the war became more personal to me.  I did not want him facing road-side bombs, but helping me with my groceries.  Matt still believed in chivalry.  I wonder if he is safe.  I wonder if he is still alive.  I suspect these feelings are being felt across this nation and this president refuses to bring our troops home.

As it relates to foreign terrorism, the picture below will symbolize exactly what happened when President Bush took a vacation and ignored the safety of this nation.
