Sgt. Dave Karsnia: "No wonder why we're going down the tubes,"

As I read the accounts surrounding Senator Larry Craig, I am disgusted that a member of our senate can allegedly act in the way he was while in a public lavatory. He stated, "I'm not gay. I don't do these kinds of things." As if being Gay is a bad thing.  But, this is not a discussion of Gays but how low these actions are.

It used to be where a parent would be supportive and even proud if their child grew up wishing to be one of our lawmakers.  I am left to wonder what lesson these lawmakers are sending to our children today.  It is far worse than anything they see on television since television is fantasy for the most part.  The reality is that they will try and legislate morality to the masses and that includes our children. This is hypocritical at best and deceptive at worst.  If they try to crack down on Hollywood, they only have to look in the mirror to see where the depravity truly comes from.

Let us not stop with Senator Craig, but equally condemn the actions of Senator David Vitter of Louisiana.  The Hill quoted Vitter’s past comments concerning marriage, “It is very appropriate and well overdue that we in the Senate focus on nurturing, upholding, preserving and protecting such a fundamental social institution as traditional marriage.” As “his phone number appeared in the records of the “D.C. Madam,” Deborah Jeane Palfrey, whom prosecutors have accused of running a prostitution ring.” My question is this; why aren’t his colleagues calling for his resignation? That is for them to answer and not me.  While his wife has decided to stand by her man; should we?

If this is not bad enough concerning both cases, you have a disgraced former congressman, Mark Foley trying to engage congressional pages in sexual activity.  In all cases while on their campaign trails and in their travels as our elected officials they were speaking to our children.  Some may have brought morality to the forefront in their speeches, but one must ask; where’s theirs?  Let us remember that Mark Foley was the co-chairman of the House's Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus.

Then there is the case of Rudy Giuliani who is the former Mayor of New York City and a present Republican presidential candidate who divorced his former wife, Donna Hanover. She only discovered this via the media and was humiliated openly. I still remember that news conference as she came out to the bank of reporters and seeing the strain on her face.  How that must have hurt her and her children.  She did not let that stop her as she soldiered on and was a featured actress on Law and Order playing a judge.  Perhaps that was a cathartic role for her.

You also have the case of former Speaker of the House; Newt Gingrich who “broke the news to wife #1 that he was leaving her as she was recovering from cancer surgery,” Yet this man is seen as presidential material by some?  No thank you!

While in all of these cases, I am targeting Republicans there have been Democrats like former President Bill Clinton who have equally displayed immoral behavior.  But in his case rabid dogs went after him and impeached him.

Basically, they pointed the finger of immorality at him while three pointed right back at them.  In all cases, all must answer the American people.  Yes, former President Clinton did and so must those who attacked him.  All’s fair in love and war as they say and so should it be in politics.

Then you have the case of many if not all of our elected officials being beholden to special interests at the expense of the American people and it begs the question; why would any parent wish of their child to become one of them?  It also begs the question of how Americans can turn a blind-eye to this immorality of greed and sex.

As many of you have come to know through my latest columns I have been dealing with the real life pain and suffering of children who have been hurt by war.  Yet these politicians cannot keep it in their pants and stuff their pants or skirts with special interest money?  Who are they serving?  Why should the world look up to our elected leaders when they see them behaving badly?

I was having a discussion with a friend who lives in Queensland, Australia yesterday and said, I am not embarrassed to be an American, but what does embarrass me is the behavior of some in Washington, D.C.  There are so many problems we as a people must begin to address and start solving, yet these politicians openly embarrass the American people.  Well shame on all of them and shame on anyone that does support these immoral miscreants.

As a mom, I have always instilled the lesson of telling the truth to my children, yet here we have the President of the United States, George W. Bush being caught in so many lies that it is not even funny, but deadly.  Through these lies, he has caused the deaths of so many innocent children and that is inexcusable. Yet he remains in office.  The same goes for Vice President, Dick Cheney.  This is unbelievable.  Children are not only dying in this heinous war or occupation, they are dying from a lack of insurance in this country.  Like Iraqi children, many of our own children are even forced to live on the streets.  Unlike Iraqi children our children are forced to live this way due to foreclosures.

What is wrong with the government of the United States when they choose to hold the American people responsible for their actions and they cannot even hold themselves to the same set of standards?  Bush even blamed victims of predatory lending industries for not reading the fine print and yet he will bold-face lie to the American people.  He will turn his back on Katrina victims and open up our wallets to the Saudis and other noted parties in the Middle East.

When Sgt. Dave Karsnia expressed of Senator Craig’s behavior by stating “No wonder why we're going down the tubes," No truer words can be expressed.  Instead of being in some lavatory stall allegedly trying to engage in sexual activity, he should have been in Washington, D.C. engaging in ending this madness known as the Iraq War.  To Senator Craig, Iraqi children are dying at the behest of this government and how dare you allegedly engage in this lewd behavior.
