My position against the occupation of Iraq is that it was the wrong war at the wrong time. It was an adventurous endeavor taken on by men with big ideology and small brains.
Attacking general Petraeus is not a wise idea. First of all soldiers have a duty to obey all lawful orders without question. He was ordered into Iraq to do a job by the commander in chief. He did not start this war nor am I aware of the roll he had in the build up to it. It has been brought up in the media that he has presidential aspirations. I also believe that he slanted his testimony for this administration.
America has never been so divided and in order to heal and unite a country it is not a wise idea to start a name calling campaign on our soldiers, however clever Petraeus/ Betray us was.
This president has been hiding behind general Petraeus for the last 6 months still the Democrats cower in the corner and say there is nothing they can do to end this war.
What the Democrats need to assert is that Bush has never had a plan in Iraq. He listened to his cabal of cretins to get into this war who said that as soon as Saddam was removed from power that the people would shower us with flowers. Well they have showered us alright, showered us with shrapnel and endless conflict.
Now Petraeus to his credit did tell the senators when asked that he didn’t know if being in Iraq will make America safer. Anyone with the eyes to hear and ears to listen knows that this war is the most important recruiting tool al-Queda could have.
Now we are at a stalemate with no end in sight so the Democrats had better demand from the president to tell us why we are in Iraq and what the strategy for ending this senseless war is. They better use this stick to beat the Republican candidates who will run for office in 2008. The more we get the president to get out from behind the Petraeus shield and talk strategy the more trouble he will have explaining it.
He has already begun the new spin slogan we got to have “Sustainable security”. What the hell is that and with the amount of troops that we have in Iraq it is impossible. He will borrow untold billions from the Chinese and raise the national debt to the Ronald Regan levels. He will use this tactic until he is out of office in 2009 and kill another thousand troops to sustain his incompetence.
He says that the surge is working and we will be able to bring some troops home now. Well he has to bring some home because he doesn’t have any more troops and the troops he has deployed are nearing the completion of their sentence.
I suggest to the Democrats that if you don’t have the courage to end the funding of this war, that you put some painful earmarks into the war funding bills. Start to repeal some of the tax breaks or add some new taxes to fund the war. I like the war profiteer tax, or maybe the record fuel profit tax.
I am sure with some suggestions from the choir we could have many suggestions on what kind of new taxes could be raised so that our grandchildren won’t have to pay for Bush’s misadventure in Iraq.
