The State of the Union Speech: A Republican viewpoint!

Last night President Bush gave his seventh and last State of the Union speech. This speech has, prior to this administration, been an event to recap the prior year and set the path for the future.

As I watched President Bush read the speech on the State of the Union, I like most of what he had to say on what America has been doing that worked and what we should be doing for the future. It was a great speech but then it struck me, while many of the subjects touched upon by the President I agreed with, the person telling me all of this great news had NO CREDITABILITY! From that point on I might as well watched a rerun of the Simpsons.

Creditability is everything when you speak in any setting, especially as the President of the United States. If no one can believe a word you say, then it does not matter that you are telling the truth, everything from your mouth will be perceived as a lie or taken with a grain of salt. Being that this administration from the top to the bottom has lied outright to the American people on a myriad of subjects, lied to our allies and used them, has a Secretary of Defense that is under indictment for war crimes, President Bush stands there with no shame for his actions or the actions of his administration. If you or I attempted to try any of the scams that have been covered by the "National Security" banner, we would be in jail for life, yet he smiles, mainly because he knows he got away with it. Do you not just hate smug people who rub it in your face that they screwed you?

I also watched Speaker of the House Pelosi and the Democratic side of the congress to see where they had common ground and where they did not.

While it would seem that on most subjects, lets say 70%, Speaker of the House Pelosi clapped and several time stood with both sides of the house. One area that both sides of the house stood was when the President discussed energy.

America has had the ability to move the country off oil for fuel for vehicles for years. The problem, our economy is based on oil. The other problem, we are at the mercy of nations for that oil that may or may not have our best interests at heart. We need to have a national plan to expand renewable energy from solar to biodiesel and ethanol to power our nation. To fail at this mission, we fail our children and what future we hand them and will lead to additional wars to secure our source of oil to keep our economy alive. While I know the President talked about nuclear power, the only problem there is that until we thwart corruption and graft in local courts and municipalities, I would never trust a plant built today.

Another area that both sides agreed to was ear mark appropriations in the budget. The country is broke. We don't want to admit it but we are. The administration and congress have been for years like an out of control addict with an unlimited credit card that they have been running through the tax payer machine like the world was going to end. America needs 900 pairs of shoes and bridges to no where like we need another 911. Everybody in America needs to live within their means especially the federal government, if this country is to get back to some resemblance of the right path.

What did concern me that the Republicans stood and clapped and the Democrats did not was in the area of judges interpreting the Constitution from the bench. While I understand that the Democrats are looking at the issues from the view point of FISA and such, because of my passion for reporting on what the legal system I know that our courts or fractured from top to bottom. John Grisham just finished a scathing book on the corruption of the courts in America and how money can circumvent the truth and right and wrong. The courts in America need to be totally disassembled and rebuilt using the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as the foundation replacing agenda and politics.

What's the bottom line?

It was a nice speech and a great setting to see the hallowed halls of Congress, but knowing the truth of who and what our President is and what our Congress has become, I might as well as watched a family gathering of the Corleone crime family for "The God father V, The New World Order".
