U.S. NEWS: Consumer confidence has shrunk to an all time low since that index was begun in 2002. No kidding?
Oil remains a great concern as the price continues to hover around $100 per barrel. The Democrats blame the Republicans, sighting the fact that the cost of oil before Iraq and the cost of oil today has more than doubled.
But then, had you read my book you would have been prepared for oil to hit these levels and keep right on going. Or had you listened to Texas oil legend, T. Boone Pickens, you could have also picked up on the fact that there is limited oil in the world. Mr. Pickens stated that the world has reached peak oil and the demand continues to climb; it’s called supply and demand; not the Iraq war.
Oil is only the first of many essential resources to hit the proverbial wall. With the massive expansion going on in the remainder of the world, we will reach these limits to growth much earlier than expected. Who can tell me what will happen then? “Oh, they will come up with new sources of energy, clean water and air, iron ore, copper ore, food sources, timber, and so on. I’m not worried.” Of course you’re not.
We have known that oil would run out since the good geophysicist, Marion King Hubbert told us so back in 1956. We have even known the approximate year for that occurrence to arrive. But why act before there is a crisis? After all, one political party can blame it on the other, just as they are doing.
The housing mess that Mr. Greenspan and Mr. Bernanke assured us was no big problem and would make a soft landing has drug the U.S. into recession. Maybe that’s not a big problem for the aforementioned financial wizards, but it certainly does not look good for Middle America.
During the Republican debate on Fox News last night, not one candidate had the slightest clue as to how to turn the economy around. Several actually said that the economy was not in trouble. Hey, a nice little recession of enduring quality builds character.
The Democrats espouse flowery prose, but are more than equal to the Republican’s ineptness of being clueless regarding sustainability; a word that neither party is familiar with.
The main stance of the Republican candidates with the exception of Dr. Paul, was to tout which could run a war the best. Which could deal with immigration best. Which could lower taxes most; all without changing a damn thing in our economic future.
The main stance of the Democratic candidates is which can increase all tax based social programs the most, which will not do whatever it is that George Bush is doing the most, which can demean the other candidates the most, which can bring jobs back to America in the greatest numbers; all without changing a damn thing in our economic future.
As I watched the other Republican candidates belittle and mock Ron Paul for his stance of peace, financial sanity, smaller government, states rights, human rights, and his adherence to the principals of the Constitution, I was saddened and angered to the core at what we have become.
The Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy are not real characters, but they are far more apt to solve our problems than Washington.
If the main stream politicians on either side of the aisle were to seriously begin to act today, it would be too late. Yet, any meaningful action will be delayed for at least a year, after all, nothing can be expected in an election year.
Wake Up Middle America, your country is almost gone.
