The choir of those against us is not humming "ugly Americans" softly.
Not only has Bush shoved his domestic policies down our throats and redefined the rule of law unlike any president in US history, his brutal foreign policy has created repercussions that are reverberating throughout our planet, imperiling our security.
So many now agree that the invasion of Iraq has made us less safe. We are hated. The reasons why are delivered daily.
The three suicides there shouldn't surprise anyone. Prisoners (enemy combatants) are tortured. Despairing and hopeless, they aren't allowed to see evidence against them nor do they have the right to challenge their imprisonment.
That White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said the president "directed that the bodies be 'treated humanely and with cultural sensitivity' to show respect for Muslim tradition-- is not a surprise. George Bush lacks the ability to self-examine and understand that he, himself, put the nooses around the necks of the dead. His contempt for their lives, for the lives of most of the world's people is anathema to defenders of human rights. Condemning tyrants all over the globe, the president fails to recognize the one he sees when he shaves.
This is just one more transgression from among Bush's comprehensive list of crimes. We have heard so many we're numb. And that's exactly what Karl Rove planned.
This land we call home used to be the template for opportunity and liberty. Yes, it fell short and had to be repaired many, many times. The wounds from our history show ugly scars, but the rest of the world was forgiving. Now, they aren't.
As the Bush Administration ratchets up the power of the Pentagon to train foreign militaries, the war drums beat louder and louder. Countries with nuclear weaponry will move into defense and, then, offense mode. Countries without this power will seek it.
When Bush comes to shove, he does so with deadly force and hubris.
