Last Saturday, the highly-talented but inexperienced racehorse "Big Brown" decisively won the Kentucky Derby, defeating the second-place "Eight Belles," the only female in the race. Eight Belles had run a strong and gritty race, but was simply outrun by the brilliant winner. Immediately after the finish, as the horses were slowing down, Eight Belles broke both of her front ankles and had to be euthanized as she lay crippled on the track.
So, does this horserace foretell anything about the Democratic nomination? I think it does, and here is the symbolism as I read it . . .
Barack Obama ("Big Brown," winner in the Derby) will win both Indiana and North Carolina; and Hillary Clinton ("Eight Belles," second in the Derby) will be forced out of the nomination race (euthanized) by the Super Delegates (racetrack officials) after losing both states (breaking both front ankles).
Maybe this is merely wishful thinking on my part, because I support Obama, while still loving and admiring Hillary Clinton. Or maybe this is a clear metaphysical sign of things to come. Stranger things have happened.
You read it here first.
