Michael Brown, George Bush and the Republican Party" A Perfect Fit
Yesterday, Michael Brown acted like the people who appointed him""denied all blame, blamed everyone else, made up lies and fantasies compared to what was really happening and showed total lack of compassion and disregard for the countless victims his behavior, attitude and policies impacted upon.
This is the right wing model, to a "T."
George Bush couldn't have done it better" or worse. Bill Frist, why, he didn't do anything wrong when he sold off all his stock in his family's health dynasty a short time before the stock tanked 15 percent. Even though he's had multiple reports from the managers of the blind trust he supposedly knows nothing about.
This is what you get when you take people who are hand-picked by behind-the-curtain corporate puppet-masters who represent soul-less transnational corporate monsters that do not value human life, do not value morals, that have no spirituality, no religion. You get spineless, lying, dishonest creatures clothed in human skin who do what they can get away with while giving corporate handouts, selling off the commons and frittering away the resources of the nation.
Michael Brown is a genuine poster boy for the principles, values and policies of the republicans and bush. Be very clear that he is not just a symptom of Bush. He is a symptom of the primary values and goals of the Republican party. He is a classic example of what you get when you value loyalty and fealty above experience and competence, when you attempt to weaken government by starving it with lowered tax revenues and lower funding for agencies and organizations.
Even the solution the right wing Republicans are proposing to pay for the Katrina catastrophy, made so much worse because of their policies, is a bad, stupid solution that will further weaken government, weaken the safety nets and strengthen the coffers of the corporations that fund the losers and failures (moral and responsibility-wise,) liars and frauds who lead the Republican party.
Paul Krugman, in his Monday NY Times op-ed, proposes a game, to "Find the Brownie"
"- to find an obscure but important government job held by someone whose only apparent qualifications for that job are political loyalty and personal connections. It's inspired by President Bush's praise, four days after Katrina hit, for the hapless Michael Brown, the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency: "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."
This is the way Republicans do business. Paul Begala, formerly of CNN's Crossfire, and former counselor to president Clinton, commented that the democrats make patronage appointments too, but they put them in harmless places, where major responsibilities are not going to be impacted.
That's where we run into one of the big Republican lies""about compassionate conservatism-- which, as was clearly evidenced by the handling of Katrina, is a phenomenon that is a fiction. Then again, Bush also talked about the soft bigotry of low expectations. If Bush gave Brownie credit for doing a "heck of a job," then I'd see he is guilty of the vapid, mushy, vacuous bigotry of no expectations. Now, we on the left share this in a way. We have no expectation of positive performance from the Bush White house. Well, more honestly, we have the hard bigotry of negative expectations. Then again, it is not bigotry to expect negatives from people who have proven to be dishonest, destructive and virtually toxic to humans and the planet. Let's call it hard, cold, clear reality. WYSIWYG. What you see is what you get with Michael Brown and the Republicans who enabled his monumental failure. Brown is a symptom. You don't get rid of a symptom by treating the symptom. You treat the disease, in this case the application of transnational corporation inspired right wing Republican policies and philosophies to the running of the USA. It is a deadly disease that is killing America and that could kill the planet.
