2. Keep the Clinton-Obama ticket alive. In that order.
3. Fan the flames of anything that will identify Obama with Black militancy -- but let surroogates like Pat Buchanan make it explicit. And he does so daily in writing oand on TV.
The result of James Carville's refusal to modify his Judas remarks against Bill Richardson is clear. It is a loyalty message to anyone who believes Hillary will win. Death to defectors.
The underlying issue is control of the Democratic party. Whatever is done will leave us either an Obama Party -- a party of a progressive middle way -- or the party under Clinton control where the basic strategy will be maintenance of the status quo no matter who wins, Clinton or McCain.
Carville's premeditated assault is just a salvo. Anything you hear from anyone named in my title is fodder for the Clinton Campaign.
This is Obama's massive opportunity.
Oddly enough, his opponent will remain the Clintons -- even after he wins this bruising contest.
McCain, after all, may not have the stomach for Clinton politics.
In essence, if Obama can widen the unity message and demonstrate that his is a middle-of-the road progressive politics he can win over the Clinton voting constituency.
Here are my Carville links, showing how the Clinton's interest has always been to control the party. Since their constituency is aging, they must do it the old way -- by demagoguery lite.
Bill Clinton is trading his legacy to be the poster boy for this approach.
