Presently the US has some 150,000 or so troops in Iraq and vicinity. At least 200,000 less than the number suggested by General Shinseki prior to the war. An estimation that promptly cost him his job.
During the first Bushwar, Colin Powell suggested an "overwhelming" force. That is a force that includes the kitchen sink anything else available to flatten the enemy quickly without effort, and without doubt. It is for this reason the US spent some six months staging in Saudi Arabia during "Desert Shield" prior to "Desert Storm.".
When all the stuff was in place, the US bombed hell out of Iraq for forty two days with some 800,000 tons of ordinance. When the ground conflict was initiated, Iraqi's were surrendering in the thousands without as much as a shot fired. US and Iraqi casualties were kept to a minimum.
It's been three years now of just shooting and killing. No real command and control, and certainly no plan to get out, which should be the highest priority now. It is clear that WMD were not the reason for this gaff, and it's true that "democracy" in the Middle East wasn't the cause. There WILL NEVER BE anything resembling democracy in Iraq. The human race has yet to evolve to a point where democracy is possible.
But, what about Iran? Iran has some 300,000 or better troops afield. These troops are not exhausted from a clusterfuck like Iraq. Further, they DO have weapons to fight with. Stuff like; Tanks, field artillery pieces, a real Air Force, helicopters, many of which are American. They have organized Infantry and Armored Divisions, REAL antiaircraft artillery (triple A.). American flyboys will finally have to earn their keep this time!
The Iranians already have Triple "A" sights around their nuclear installations. The following website gives an idea of what the US will face should such a foolish attack on Iran be considered. http://www.exisle.net/mb/index.php?showtopic=34883. The Iranians have a huge supply of Russian weapons, and Russian support.
It follows, therefore, that our primary mission now should be the disposition of George Walker Bush et al before these bastards get us all killed. There is no doubt that the Immigration issue, and HR 4437 are of major importance. But this will not be resolved with the Republicans owning the government, and I'd like to think most people know this.
How many more LIVES are we as a nation willing to lose to George Walker Bush and Crime Family? How much of our own lives are we willing to give up in the way of ridiculous fuel prices and the same sort of consumer prices? How many more countries are we going to alienate with Bush and Condispeak?
Harry Truman had a plaque on his desk that said, "The buck stops here," and was quoted as saying, "either sh*t or get off the pot!" Well?....................... What's it gonna be?
