Why I Was Happy Last Night

I have solved my own political dilemma for the time being. I read in a comment to one of my articles that political parties don’t end wars or change things, that is done by the people. Political parties didn’t give us civil rights in the 60’s, or get us out of Vietnam in the 70’s. The American people did. I was delighted that Joe Biden actually mentioned the 800 lb gorilla in the living room when he said that the only way that we could get rid of corporate control of Congress is by Campaign Finance Reform.

I agree that Joe might have been grasping at straws to keep his campaign afloat. I know that everyone laughed at Mike Gravel when he first brought up the Military Industrial Complex, but it seems that since he brought it up, nobody is laughing anymore. The Democrats that I saw on stage were LISTENING! They were listening to the American people. The reason they were listening to the American people is because they read the blogs. They read the articles that people like us write day after day. They know what’s in our hearts and minds. When the TV pundits sing the songs of the right, the people that want the job of President realize that they had better be listening to a different tune. That tune is the one that is emanating from the progressive left.

I don’t believe that the Democrats onstage last night are knights’ in shining armor by a long shot. I don’t believe that Hillary Clinton will turn her back on the corporate funding that gave her that 46% rating in the polls. I do believe one thing, and what I believe is that all the candidates in last night’s debate wanted out of Iraq and did not want war with Iran. They want the United States to have negotiations with other countries and they realize that what Bush has done to this nation’s constitution must be made right again. That puts me in awe. That makes me as happy as a dog eating sh*t. I don’t care what Democrat gets elected, I haven’t come close to deciding on who I will support, but I do know something.

What I know, I know to the crux of my being. I know that it will be cold days in hell when I see a goddamn Republican take the oath of office for President of The United States. I can guarantee that even if the “sainted” Ronald Reagan should rise from his moldy grave and run with Abraham Lincoln as his running mate, that they will not stand an ice cube’s chance in hell of getting elected. I don’t care if it’s Hillary, Obama, Gore or Gravel that runs, I know that they have my vote.

I’m not going to be dragged into who is better than whom, when the election is still a year and a half out. I’d like to see Gore run. I would like to see more of what I saw last night too. The rhetoric of the Democrats last night had to have put Bush on notice that the people of America are fed up. The politicians only say what they think we want them to say. That’s how it works. That’s how it SUPPOSED to work. They are not here to “Lead us out of Egypt” so to speak, they are here to DO OUR BIDDING! That is why they are not that important. Right now the important people in this country are the people that will put the anti-Bush politician in office that promises to undo everything that Bush has done. That is what I want, and I believe that is what most of us want. That is precisely why I was happy to hear what I did last night.
