I just got back from a Move-On.org meeting about the new strategy to get our nation out of Iraq. I liked it. Of course, here in Greenville, SC, Move-On.org isn’t the most popular hang-out on a Tuesday evening, I believe there was a 4-H club meeting going on simultaneously, so that spoiler our big “numbers”. But seriously, it was a pretty informative meeting. I liked what Eli Pariser said about letting the politicians who won’t move on Iraq know that they are going to lose their jobs soon, that seems right to me. Eli said that there are Republicans that are losing their seats to “Anybody Else” in the polls by great margins in States that have had the same Senator for years and years. Some Republicans that have stood “toe-to –toe with President Bush have approval ratings at around 12%. I know that’s true also. I guess they are tired of being Senators.

Can you imagine losing your seat in the Senate over one issue? I can’t think of anyway to lose a political career than to back the worst President and the worst war that this nation has ever seen. Vietnam was right up there, but that was a BI-partisan mistake. This war lies squarely in the hands of THIS administration. There is no doubting that false information was given to the American people and to Congress itself. Funny though, I never fell for it. I’m not special either, the facts just didn’t add up. If anyone had stopped to think, I mean really think they would have come to the realization that this war was a dreadful mistake. Saying anything against the war was almost sacrilege. Everyone was looking for a scapegoat, while evil men were looking for an Empire. That’s what I’m afraid of happening again with another “attack” on America.

Somebody remarked that we should make next September 11th of this year, day of a general Strike in this country. I think it’s a great idea. Nobody goes to work, nobody buys anything, nobody buys gas or spends a dollar anywhere. Just stay home or take the kids fishing. That would be the best way to show everyone exactly how many Americans want to end this war. The rest of the world that wants to bully our way across the planet, or “fight them there so we don’t fight them here” go ahead and do whatever. It won’t matter. The statistics will prove, once and for all that Americans want out. The Republicans can’t rig a General Strike.

This month we are going to let our great Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) know that there are those of us right here in his little world know that we don’t want this war any more. Maybe the Federal Storm Troopers will come and get me. I wouldn’t put it past them. It’s quite a nervous business protesting in “the belly of the beast” here in SC. That doesn’t mean that all South Carolinians love Bush and his war. There are many, many people here that are totally fed up. This will be interesting. If you know of anyone that wants to attend a vigil in the soul of the reddest state in the Union, E-mail me and I’ll give you the time and place. This is a really pretty State and we would love to have you.

Remember September 11th and if you can, come on down to SC this month. Meanwhile, keep doing whatever you do to keep sane in an insane world.
