Let’s give a hand to the UAW and their fight for fair treatment from GM that pays it’s CEO’s and top management millions while still in the RED while freezing wages and cutting benefits for their workers. This is the first strike in twenty years by the UAW against GM.
When the corporations get the message that the workers are an endemic part of the company, maybe they will start to get the message. For too many years our Unions have been ineffectual and helpless. South of the Mason-Dixon Line and in some Mid-Western States are “Right-to-work States" that have destroyed the Unions that operate in these States. It seems that Unions have had their heyday in America, seeing the UAW strike for fair treatment for the “Little Guy” makes this writer say that’s it’s about time.
The President of Iran is speaking at Columbia University in the next few minutes. The University audience will get to ask him what they will. Much has been reported about the “Mass” demonstration against his visit. This is very predictable, the network news pump up the fact of a huge demonstration, but don’t report on the 100,000 people that protested in DC on Sept 15th. You figure it out.
The News Networks are reporting that the border of Iran has been closed to Iraq because the capture of an individual the U.S. Military has caught that’s supposed to belong to an “elite” Iranian unit. The Iranians say that this man is a trade official. Who do you believe? I would like to believe my own government, but after six years of outright lies and misinformation, I’m inclined to believe the Iranians. This is coming from an Army “Lifer” that gave 21 years! How much longer must we view what our government says with skepticism? It’s not because I favor the Iranians or sympathize with them, it’s just that anything our government says can’t be trusted
UPDATE: The Iranian President spoke forthrightly and what seemed to be honestly and recieved a standing ovation from the students and faculty. You won't hear this on Network TV but I saw the entire broadcast on MSNBC while CNN blocked what Ahmadinejad was saying, reporting on what Bollinger, The president of Columbia who really hazed this man who was couragiously offering his views to the American People. He said Iran has been the victim of terrorism by some countries for 28 years. We know that America has been the prime motivator in these attacks. I dare US officials to deny it.
He said that a referendum in Palistine with all the Palistinian people including Christians, Muslims and Jews would enjoin. This is anethema to most US Officials and the majority of Jews and friends of Israel. He also did not deny the holocuast but he said that that had nothing to do with the Palistinian people that have beed disenfrachised by the Jewish State.
He invited the Faculity and students to come to Iran. He invited US Officials to a dialouge with Iran. He said that Iran could be a "friend" to the US. Look, for my mind, what the hell are we waiting for? Would Bush go to speak to the Iranian people? I doubt it. The president of Iran again offered a debate with Bush at the UN. Do it Bush. But you won't you are a coward.
