John Candido lives in Australia and would like to see the United States implement the SI system of measurements, the metric system, as soon as practicable. John is a Life Member of the United States Metric Association (USMA). He is a mature-age university student who has happily learnt that he has been given an offer to do an Accountancy Degree at La Trobe University in Melbourne Australia. He already has a Bachelor of Arts from La Trobe University and he hopes that this second degree will be something that he will enjoy and commit to. Apart from the need for the USA to implement the metric system, John also has a strong interest in seeing Australia, as well as the rest of the world, become cashless societies. He beleives that this will reduce crime generally, as well as violent cash robberies. John beleives that cashless societies are inevitable due to the convenience of non-cash methods of buying goods and services that are available now, and increasingly so in the near future with new technology such as smart cards currently making their presence felt in Europe and Asia. John speculates that President-Elect Obama and his highest advisors will push for the full implementation of the metric system for the United States in several years time, hopefully sooner.
