Slobodan Drenovac (1932) grew up in Ohio and Pennsylvania (USA). He returned to his native land after World War II and now lives and works in Rijeka. He has translated countless manuscripts and books from the Croatian and Serbian into English and vice versa. Worthy of mention are his translations of well known Croatian writers (Vjekoslav Kaleb, Ivan Bakmaz, Ivo BreÅ¡an, Ivan Goran KovaÄić, Jure KaÅ¡telan, Vladimir Popović, Ivan Slamnig, Nikola Petković, Roman Latković, etc.) In the course of his 40-odd years of translating he has translated books of fiction, non-fiction, plays and poetry by a variety of authors such as: Barry Ulanov (-A History of Jazz in America-), Horace McCoy (-They Shoot Horses, Don't They?-), Michael Ondaatje (-Coming Through Slaughter-, -The Collected Works of Billy the Kid-), Gwendolyn McEwen (-Birds-), David Homel (-Get On Top-), Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird (-Secrets of the Soil-), Paul Kennedy (-Preparing for the 21st Century-), Allen Ginsberg (-Howl-), Noam Chomsky (-The New Military Humanism-) and many other books. In 1987 he selected and translated a small anthology of Canadian poetry that included poems by the following authors: Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje, Robert Kroetsch, Leonard. Cohen, John Newlove, Joe Rosenblatt, Ann Michaels, Diana Hertog, Al Purdy, Earle Birney, Barry Callaghan...
